Portable Antivirus / Bootable AV

Anyone here use any specific tools for spot checking specific drives? Or bootable ones that will allow you to search for viruses on internal or external drives? I have an external drive with a backup on it from a user that suspects shed contracted a virus. Id like to scan the drive without risking infecting the one im hooking it to to actually do the scan.

Links to several bootable scanners free to download. They will update from the internet if using a wired connection. Kaspersky takes forever to update while BitDefender and AVG update quickly. Microsoft has the offline version of security essentials and can be found here.

I use a great little utility called Sardu to create a bootable usb drive with a bunch of different programs including several AVs.
