I enabled port mirroring on one of my port on my switch. The goal is to monitor my bandwidth. Well, now I can't seem to ping anything on my network or outside for that matter.
I went as far as installing a second NIC but upon reboot it refuses to ping and access the net or internal machines. But if I down the nic and restart it, it works fine. Should I be able to access this box "remotely?" I want to be able to ssh into it from my workstation or am I defeating the purpose of this whole "project."

what make/model switch? only higher-end switches support ingress traffic on a mirror port.

you have the right idea with the second NIC...just make sure to assign a static ip with no gateway to the NIC connected to the mirror port.
