Port forwarding question

I have a Linksys e1200v2, I had the port forwarding up and working, I flashed DD-WRT today and and trying to get my port forwarding but I'm confused. I just need 1 port open 8080 (for Kodi) I flashed DD-WRT so I could use DYNU to keep my kodi address constant. Now it's saying the port's blocked in the port foward checker I'm using. Everything else seems to be working. I tried setting it these 2 ways

Protocol: Both, ports 8080, IP address 192.168.1.1 and enabled checked. I also tried adding my internet IP to the source net box. I've also tried it with UPNP on and off. What am I not doing here? I've never had a problem with port forwarding before. This is my 1st run with DD-WRT. I Googled DD-WRT and I don't see anything I'm not doing here I should be. I also went over every menu and don't see anything that looks out of place.

And if it helps, I have a Cisco DPC3216 which Charter has locked down tighter than fort knox. So I can't connect to it and do anything.

Im assuming after flashing dd-wrt you went ahead and setup port forwarding again?

did you click apply after configuring the ports.... And after you save and reboot. Hopefully that helps! 😀 I dunno why but, I figured saving and rebooting was the way to "apply" but you need to really hit that apply button first. 😛

Yes, after flashing I set up the forwarding again. And yes I clicked apply after I made the change. I just rebooted it from the control panel, still can't connect to the port. Before flashing the port worked perfectly, all I did since was flash the firmware and re-configure the port. I made no other changes.


if I go to my local IP :8080 it connects to Kodi, if I put my internet ip, it refuses connection

*EDIT* it's working now, I didn't do anything lol. Well that was strange, but whatever

Port 8080 is General Internet port secondary to port 80, using it for other purposes can cause interference.

I am not familiar with Kodi but iif possible to change its Default port to a high number port it preferable.

Using uncommon ports high in the count (like 55555) is also adding some security because the common bots are usually tuned to scan the lower numbers default ports.

You can try this to see if you can get into the Charter Cisco DPC3216 .. let us know if it works

Ummm, I've been told by a lot of IT security folks that, you might as well just use port 80 as... changing the port to anything else is leaving ports open.

This myth may have been acceptable in the past, but in today's world it offers no protection.

Tho, if you create a bridge, and hang all your open ports on one side and your high risk security crap on the other side. Like I do, and can be done very easily with dd wrt, is your best bet. I make 3-4 images of my web server every month, so if they break in. No problem, reimage and change all the passwords! 😀 It's a do over!
