howdy 🙂

i have smc router w/ PPPoE Pacbell DSL .. sharing bettween 3 PCs..

well, i want to try d/l from WinMX .. but when i try to , it gives me 'connection closed' .. or 'connection refused' message..

opened port 6666 and 8886-8888 .. and it still does that..

does anyone know EXACT option so one can download from WinMX w/ a router?

thanks in advance!

I didn't have to change anything on my SMC router to use WinMX. Didn't have to open or forward any ports at all. Maybe you need to reinstall WinMX and tell it you are behind a firewall when it asks.

thx for your answer 🙂

one more Q .

when it's showing as "remotely queued "#xx" .. will it download automatically when it's my turn? .. or do i have to turn on 'auto-retry' ?

and i don't understand why my queued number increases sometimes 😛

thx again

It will download automatically when it is your turn. I'm assuming you mean after you get the "Busy (Queuable)" message and then select "Enter remote queue". You don't have to turn on auto-retry.

I've noticed that a few times. I don't know why that happens - maybe the person at the other end can rearrange the queue order?

HMMMMMMMMMM .. opend 6666 and 8886-8888 ports..

so far i was able to d/l TWO files... but i get "ERROR TIMED OUT" message if i try to d/l others..

what i figured out from the experiment is.. that If i don't get the queue# .. and start d/l right away,.. i can d/l .. but if i'm queued.. and when it's my turn and try to d/l .. it gives me error..

anyone have this problem?? it's really annoying! :|

I think you are just experiencing the "joys" of WinMX. That's just the way it works. As people join and leave the peer network their files show up for a while after they disconnect. This happens a lot, as you can see from all the time-out errors you get. Unfortunately, there are people who like to take without giving, that's why you see those connection refused or connection closed messages. I also think that explains the problems you are having when you are in a queue - the person disconnects from WinMX before it gets to your turn.

I've found it takes a lot of patience. WinMX is certainly not Napster.
