Porsches are air-cooled, so they need the extra oil to help cool the engine even more.

I barely trust the garages that change the oil on my Civic as it is!
Civics are easy, try an older Saturn. The filter is behind the right wheelwell cover and has to be pryed out of the way!
Or an Element, where the filter is mounted half way up the block on the backside right next to the exhaust headers.
Mid 90's Cavilers are fun too (just ranting now that my job as an oil changer and tire jockey is done)

tell the old lady to pull over and stop when the oil light comes on, next time.
I'd think that an ambulance chaser-type lawyer would be good. They'll scare the crap out of the other company's lawyers and if you get the type that don't collect unless you win, it's a win-win situation.Originally posted by: FiLeZz
What kind of lawyer would I need for something like this.

-that sounds a little negative- their's nothing really negative about the fact they take more oil...it probably has something to do with why they are so reliable.....
I used to own a 2000 boxster s and now own a 911...when I return from Iraq I'm going to buy a 911 turbo so I know a little about this....the boxster does take 9 quarts of oil as does the 911's since 99' (except turbo, gt2, and gt3) the reason is they are not a dry-sump lubricated motor as the older Porsche's were and therefore it sits in a big pan at the bottom of the engine....
First mistake:
People who can't afford or don't want to pay or learn how to do proper maintenance on a vehicle should not be buying it. If you can't do the Boxster's oil change yourself, take it to a good foreign car mechanic, or to a Porsche dealer- don't buy the car. Taking a Porsche to a regular oil change shop? At least it's only a Boxster....we all pay higher insurance because of ridiculous claims like this. Who's fault is it the oil change didn't know how to work on a exotic vehicle? Sure, you can blame them for taking it but as a Porsche owner I blame you for going there in the first place.
Second:
Sure enough it was. I stopped and was able to get the car started to get home about another 1 mile, with the oil light on. I knew at this point with the car making all sorts of knocks that the motor was a gonner. I checked the oil level it was perfect.
Why would you try driving a car you knew was having problems...sounds like you fried the engine yourself.....

Yes, get a new Porchse, preferably one that's not a Boxster.
Do you really think his insurance would cover something like that???:disgust:Originally posted by: hysperion

Now that I've been an a$$ about it:
Honestly, you are paying 12k for a new engine...now is your chance to do something special. I'm not sure if you are aware of this but the 99-2001 911' 3.4 ltr 911 engine can be put in a boxster as they are the same M96 motor. This swap adds about 100hp and makes for a car that's faster the the 911 with better handling characteristics. Maybe you should look into how much more that engine would cost you. I've ridden in a friend's vehicle who had the swap done and I was humbled. I believe it is less then a 4k difference and this is basically a one-time oppurtunity for you to do it.....

Winnar!
All of the damage could have been prevented and the seal or whatever was wrong could have been replaced at relatively cheap.
My wife's new Volvo has a stupid filter arrangement. Replacement cartridge that goes inside a housing. The stupid thing is on the front of the motor but burried below intake hoses making it a 45 minute chore to change. Requires a new seal for the cap and a new aluminum crush washer for the drain bolt every time in addition to the cartridge.

Yeah, they claim their cars are air cooled but in reality they are oil cooled.
