Porn at the SEC -- U.S. Govt Regulators surfing porn on the job!

Have you ever wondered whether the regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) were a bunch of jack-offs? They missed the Madoff scam even though it had been reported to them, etc. Well, it turns out that while securities fraud was occurring and the nation's economy was collapsing, market regulators were surfing porn! Your tax dollars at work! HOT times in the halls of Washington!

From the Huffington Post:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/23/sec-porn-probe-staffers-w_n_548931.html

WASHINGTON — Senior staffers at the Securities and Exchange Commission spent hours surfing pornographic websites on government-issued computers while they were being paid to police the financial system, an agency watchdog says.

The SEC's inspector general conducted 33 probes of employees looking at explicit images in the past five years, according to a memo obtained by The Associated Press.

---------------------

A senior attorney at the SEC's Washington headquarters spent up to eight hours a day looking at and downloading pornography. When he ran out of hard drive space, he burned the files to CDs or DVDs, which he kept in boxes around his office. He agreed to resign, an earlier watchdog report said.

An accountant was blocked more than 16,000 times in a month from visiting websites classified as "Sex" or "Pornography." Yet he still managed to amass a collection of "very graphic" material on his hard drive by using Google images to bypass the SEC's internal filter, according to an earlier report from the inspector general. The accountant refused to testify in his defense, and received a 14-day suspension.

sad thing is that (some of) these instances occurred in 2008; wouldn't surprise me if some people are or were still employed >_>

Just wait until these same jackoffs are running your healthcare. Need a cancer treatment authorized? Sorry, too buy downloading pr0n and spanking my junk to do this. Maybe in 6 months.

What is it with pr0n and the govt that is so intertwined? Our public library system is plauged by people using the computers as masterbation stations instead of reading. Public school system is plauged by teachers banging the students. And now the SEC which is supposed to monitor and regulate the financial system was apparently too hot and bothered to do their jobs. Oh I could interject a Clinton joke in here but I think the pattern is being made clear enough ;)

I think I'd rather have some government administrators doing it for the relative bargain price of $200,000/year than pay insurance company executives $5 million/year to do the same thing while also appointing death panels to rescind people's insurance policies. (They also get to bang their hot secretaries.)

Our society is just sexually repressed and pr0n gives many Americans the outlet they so desperately need. Perhaps we can turn our nation's interest in pr0n into a new export industry.

What's really sad is that few of these SEC employees, including directors, will get fired for this outrage. I thought about calling my congressman's office and demanding that they all be fired. I hope Jon Stewart makes a funny Daily Show episode about all of this.

I read that the GOP is going to make a big deal of this. How well will it go over to attack the entire Federal government based on the actions of a small number of individals?

I see you have tried to associate health care reform to this.

You really need an answer to this? How long have you you followed politics?

Ya. Why exactly doesn't the US government have content filtering?

Not really sure why government employees need access to porn, facebook, or even personal email while at WORK.

No wonder government agencies don't work.

According to one article, one of the employees had access blocked to various sites over 16k times so it sounds like there is filtering, just not good filtering.

I know fed workers are blocked from youtube. I don't know about facebook and other social media.

I mean why do these people even have internet access?

I am sure that most of what they need to do is on an intranet or limited to a few sites.

Being a Bush Admin regulator was a bureaucrat's dream job. The less you do, the more the boss likes it... and anybody dumb enough to not get it the first time around gets a bad evaluation... Even zealous go-getters get beat down after awhile, or they just leave...

Free Market! World Economy! Ownership Society! Self-regulated banking! Rah! Rah! Rah!

(from article)
"It is nothing short of disturbing that high-ranking officials within the SEC were spending more time looking at pornography than taking action to help stave off the events that brought our nation's economy to the brink of collapse,"
Typical hysteria bullshit. OMG THE GUBMENT WASTING MONEY. Because only the goverment does this, ya know?

How many people in ATOT are trolling while they're on the clock? Did anyone ask why we put "not work safe" next to porn links? It's because we naturally assume half the people posting here are fucking around at work.

Not really sure why government employees need access to porn, facebook, or even personal email while at WORK.
This! If I ever run any company or government project, the first thing I'll do is ask the IT guys to block facebook. In my engineering design classes, half the people are on facebook from the first minute to the last. Maybe have the IT guys redirect it to some gay porn website so anyone going there is immediately embarrassed.

I surf and post here when I have some down time at work. I definitely agree that facebook needs to be blocked. That shit is ridiculous, I've seen people I work with seriously update their status 10+ times WHILE AT WORK! WTF?!?
