If pork is so safe then why they insist you cook it at 170ºF?

The chances of it having worms are very small, but the stuff that happens to you if you hit that very small chance with undercooked meat is so nasty that it's worth being careful.

I've never noticed any in venison or other wild meats before though; although I've run into a few huge, disgusting botfly larvae in squirrels before. While they won't harm the meat, I still discard the carcass out of disgust.

Bot flies are truthfully one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. I had a girlfriend with 2 kittens and at the time we lived together in my apartment, and one of the kittens had a seeping "hole" in it's chest. Upon taking it to the vet, we watched him open the hole and extract the live worm with tweezers.

I was horrified, (imagine me freaking out about more of them living in my apartment 😛) But she was totally unphased.

I always thought it was a myth to stop people from eating pork and making them feel good that they cant eat it (ex. muslims and jews). I wonder if it would work with steak or lamb?

LOL

 at the fishing bait worms on the last pic.

Gummy worms?

I've heard of people occasionally trying to use them while fishing (unsuccessfully), but I certainly wouldn't refer to them as "fishing bait worms." LOL!

not true, i have caught many bass in MN using gummy worms.
