Popups increase after installing XPWorm patch?!?!

Me and a co-worker have both noticed that after installing the XP Worm patch from Microsoft we keep getting pop up messages with the appearance of a windows message box. Advertising various things. I personally am running slimbrowser, which has a very good pop up blocker. I havevt gotten a popup for months while using it, Until the Patch was installed. Has anyone else noticed this? I just ran ad-aware, Im hoping that will take care of it.

install a decent firewall it will take care of your issue.

and please make use of the search feature, there have been a million threads on this...

I performed a search but I couldnt find anything, Could you post a link? I dont like the software firewalls, we have a hardware one between the servers and the web and thats about the extent of it.

I would reccomend that you dont give this advice by itself, if you are recieving a windows messenger service popup spam message it means that the same port ranges that are used for Netbios and RPC are directly accessable to the internet.

A good firewall is always a better option. If you cannot afford a good firewall use the Windows XP built-in firewall, once it is setup you can disable the messenger service (because the Windows XP Firewall will not block access to the messenger service).

Simply disabling the Messenger Service is just a way of ignoring the real problem.
