Popup ads back?

Just had on of the left side and then one of the top banner ads pop out. Not good mmkkaaay.

I'm behind a filter at work, and I use AdBlock at home.

If there were an easy way to actually contact Anand, I would suggest to him to remove all the ads, the dynamite data crap, and just provide a non obtrusive affiliate portal that we could voluntarily browse and shop from. He could even provide a little cash back (a la Bing or Fat Wallet) as added incentive. Not out of the realm of possiblity, as they've had no problems in the past partnering with select merchants (namely NewEgg). I bet you anything AnandTech would benefit more from that kind of setup, and with less issues alienating us forum users.

I've sent him emails before with never any reply, though, so I'm not going to bother.

You're supposed to get them the URL or some shit.
Indeed. We'll gladly go complain to the ad guys and have them remove any popups, but you have to be able to tell us what ad is doing it. Given the use of geolocation and browser fingerprinting, it's often hard to get them to come up through blind luck on our end.

one of the left hand side popped up while starting a thread so I cleared it rigth away. think it had some large image of a bird on it. The one along the top was about some clothing line crap.

just had another occurrence form a left side ad. Was for "Hyundai uncensored". In addition to being blown up when it first showed during page load, it also popped out a huge box if your mouse went over it.

not sure exactly how to get the url, but it was a redirect from a hyundai site with what seemed to be a bluestreak.com page.

In IE8 there's a set of built-in developer tools that allow you to drill down on something by clicking on it. For Firefox you need Firebug (or AdBlock).

I finally broke down and started using Firefox with AdBlock Plus instead of IE8. No more pop-up ads for me.

Sorry if it affects the site's revenue stream, but the ads are too obtrusive.

I had a small square one pop up this afternoon at work, middle of the screen. Closed before I got the URL. But was only once.

I have nothing to the left...

Apparently the ad people have to be able to track down which ad network it's coming from. So Olds' URL is the ad itself, but doesn't tell them where it's coming from. So if it happens again, we'll need your help tracking down where each ad on the page is coming from.
