I used to play SC a lot and then moved onto Tactical Ops, a mod for UT. Now I want to start playing a RTS game again and was wondering what some of the more popular RTS games are whcih are player over the 'net. I don't particularly like AOE. I tried Empire Earth and I love it, EXCEPT the frikkin unit AI is so bad. In SC you could attack click so units would attack enemies en route to their waypoint, in EE they just walk by and get shot at. How lame.

Hey!! Tac Ops is frekin awesome!!! :) Once I get my new system set up expect to see me a lot on the Tac Ops servers!!!

Ok, then. Why don't you like AOE? It play's like EE, but AOE isn't in 3d and it doesnt span a thousand years (lol). I had mad fun playing AOE on Microsoft's Zone. The only problem is that there are lot's of pro's at that game and I usually get my assed kicked. But there are plenty of nOOb rooms to play in.

RTS games I would recommend:

Sacrafice - great looking 3D rts game and can be had for only 10 dollars at EB!! The game is only a year old, but can get really hectic. Check out some of the reviews.
One downside is that the game didn't sell to well so playing it on-line is kinda hit an miss.

Shogun: Total War - It's turn based and a 3D rts game. You can have a ton of units on the fireld without any major slowdowns!! I just picked up the newer copy (Warlord edition) so I haven't played it that much yet. And it's a popular game, so there should be a ton of people on-line.

Ground Control - Another 3D rts game. Only played the demo and I thought it was very cool! Game got good reviews and is only $10! games only been out about 1.5 years! Don't know how on-line play is though =(

AOE - personally i love this game. I could play this game all the time! Also, on-line play is great and since the game kicked major ass you'll never have a problem getting a game going on the Zone!!

Red Alert (and expansion paks) - I had the game for a while but traded it in cause it's not my cup of tea. I've read some great reviews on this game and I've read that on-line play is very good!! Check it out.

We'll here are a couple RTS games to help you out. If you want to find out find out more about rts game in general check out www.gamespot.com

Always is War Craft 2 Battle.net Edition hehe

Starcraft + Broodwar will be hard to beat, game is pretty balanced if the players are equal skill level and always thousands of people online.

Sacrifice was great but when i tried on online play (with 56k) it was laggy as hell. Even my friends on T1s and Cable were getting ping spikes and disconnects. I've yet to try it since I got my dsl so I dont know how well it works now.
