Haha...my dad got one for Father's Day last year. I used it when he came down here to AZ for a visit and he showed it to me, and i think that's the only time it has come out of the bag it's in. Do you know for sure he'd use one? Maybe a good laminated map, or a street atlas instead? My dad is reasonable techincally inclined (not a pro by any means) and he could never figure the thing out. LOL.

Just my $.02.

Yeah, he loves gadgets...only things he likes...atomic clocks, weather things, X10 stuff, sensors, you name it...

I think he would use it...and he is a great dad..

Unless your father is fond of technology, forget it. I bought my mother a $400 GPS unit and it might as well be a paperweight.

Well the one we got him was a Magellan RoadMate 800. it's pretty fun to mess around with. I didn't use it much, but i found it reasonably simple to use. But, i guess it might be a little out of your price range too though...on the magellan site it says MSRP is like $500.00.

yup

That's exactly what I would recommend - Tom Tom or Garmin Nuvi, with the Nuvi being the better of the two. You can find a good deal on the Nuvi 350 if you shop around (froogle). My brother has a different Garmin than what I recommend, the StreetPilot I think, and hates it. Tom Tom or Nuvi, period.

I agree, stick to tomtom or garmin.

They use different maps though, tomom- teleatlas, garmin- navteq.

Also im pretty sure garmin is better at the POI stuff. (specifically, has more of them)
