I woke up late this morning and like a champ, i said ill just do my squats and get going.

I figured, im just doing squats so ill try for some heavy singles. For me, this means wrapping my knees.

Welp, i wrapped my knees very tight. I pulled 315 off the rack and just taking it off the rack, i felt a "popping twinge" in my calf, along the inside/front next to the shinbone, high on the shin/inner calf. It didnt hurt in the least, i just felt it. I figured it was just me being old.

Anyway i performed my squat, sat down to unwrap it, and that vein on my leg right below where the wrap ended was all swollen for a good 4-6 inches down the side of my shin/calf.

I immediately called it, went inside and iced it and presumed my life was now over. Im thinking should i go to work, should i go to urgent care? I wasnt positive it was just a popped vein. Im still in no pain, other than the ice, and no swelling elsewhere. The vein swelling went down well with ice.

What frightened me was this was my first instance of anything happening since i started training for strength. So im wondering how long it will heal? How long should i rest it? Im doing my best to not flex that ankle at all so i dont pump any blood even harder through it.

Anyone have specific knowledge of this kind of 'injury'?

*i want to also note that this is completely not the fault of the squat or my technique. it was completely my own stupidity wrapping my damn knees that tight.

If it's not causing you too much pain, I would arrange a appointment with your doctor immediately, see what your he thinks If it is causing you a good amount of pain, I would head right over to urgent care.

Sure it's just a vein? Popping twinge seems like a tendon injury imo.

I was wondering if it was actually a vein popping as well. Is there discoloration? I would think a vein popping would present with some kind of internal bleeding. But then I'm not a doctor.

Im positive its not a tendon or structure. The vein/artery/whatever, swole up immediately. I iced it for 30 mins, then again a couple hours later.

At present it is a little more tender to touch, and there is light blue bruising visible for about 6 inches.

From what i can find on the internet about busted veins, which is not much, it should heal in about a week. Cross my fingers and hope my self diagnosis and google conclusions are correct.

Im so peaved at myself because i had my diet on point and was working hard and dropping weight the right way and had 3 weeks of momentum. I guess all i can do is train upper body, and reduce my calories the best i can.

thats what i think the bruising is from. I would guess similar to someone trying to take blood from you and doing a horrible job stabbing you.
