Up here in Canada you can get a drumstick and a thigh from Popeye's for C$2.50+tax on Tuesdays. Used to be Poverty Tuesday for movie theatres and I guess KFC caught on to that and started offering a thigh and a drumstick for 2 bux and Popeye's followed suit. Price has gone up to 2.50 of course.
We used to have Church's through Harvey's, but they stopped doing it. It was the best chicken and a great bargain, too.
realz? i thought it was the pinnacle of chicken deliciousness! did you try it?Originally posted by: KeithTalent
There was a Popeye's chicken in one of the suburbs here, but I think it closed down due to lack of deliciousness.

Ok, they brought up themselves how they knew some people might take offense to this story. it's obvious that white people did go to that Popeyes they just didn't talk to them. If they were worried about how people would preceive the story, how fucking hard would it have been to throw in a interview of Bob & Becky who were there to get chicken and upset there was no more. The fact they knew it would catch flack should indicate they would be smart enough to fix the situation. It means nothing to you because you're not black, the stereotype is stupid and I don't even know why people are so amused by it. But come tomorrow a lot of black people are going to get fucked with by white people with the "yoe want some chicken dawg!" and shit like that. This story is deeper than Fried Chicken, it touches on a problem in America with perceptions of others. And one that happens to lead to black people getting mocked by white people who have this image in their head of a Sambo with big lips shucking and jiving with Fried Chicken grease all over their lips.
Okay dude, I'm from New Orleans and EVERY black person I know here loves fried chicken. Seriously, in my town there are 4 fried chicken fast food places within a 2 minute driver.
A lot of white people love it too, but not nearly as adamantly.
Same with the fact that all my asian friends love white rice. One of my friends eats 2-3 bowls a meal.
It's like when my friends make fun of the white ones in our group for liking spaghetti because they associate it with them being white. We're all friends, so we can laugh of the stereotypes, especially when they are true for a single individual.
Yes, there are problems with racism in America, but the black community by far has the best deal out of all the minorities. So I don't think you should complain about this news video.
nope. that is all we have.Originally posted by: meltdown75

I go to Popeyes often and see plenty of non black people there. But in this news story they're only showing black people? I find it impossible to believe they couldn't find one white person trying to get chicken to film. I would go so far as to say they could have easily found dozens of white people, or Asians or whatever to film. The media cracks me up. It's sad shit like this is acceptable
Who cares who they found and who they didn't? Corellation != causation. Just because there's a bunch of black people and a fried chicken joke doesn't mean there's any sort of racism involved. It's stereotypically hilarious, but so are all stereotype jokes. They're stereotypes for a reason, people, and there's nothing racist about it. Even then, who gives a shit if there is? Oh noez, a news agency edited out all teh whities (not) buying popeyes chicken! The world is coming to an end! The fucking sky is falling oh noes!!
How would you feel if they ran a story about child molesters and only showed white men? People period love fried chicken, they obviously were playing up this stereotype to amuse simple minded people like you.
Maybe the popeyes is located in a predominantly black community? What then?
Doubtful, I've lived in predominantly black communities and if Popeyes there ever ran out of chicken they wouldn't have been this polite. With the exception of the lady in the SUV all the responses were very unremarkable and low key. And even her segment was pretty tame. Since they obviously were shooting this footage with the mindset of playing up the stereotype they would have gotten much better footage in a predominantly black area. We would have seen plenty of cussing and threatening of employees lives lol. But if they had shot this story in Brooklyn, it would have been overly blatant on their part. They probably decided to use the area they did so they could still project the stereotype. But not so extremely that it was painfully obvious what they were doing. The media is excellent at portraying stereotypes about all people in a very subtle manner.
I don't even understand why anyone finds this stereotype funny, I mean it's Fried Chicken. I guess people are easily amused *shrug*

Not sure what you're asking about exactly, I read over the page and can only guess you mean them showing people of color on a page about unemployment? Nothing bad here as one pic might just be one pic, and they're not playing up the stereotypes. There looks to be a mother and father in the picture and they're all smiling. Not even subtle angles here, if they were going for a stereotype they would either cut out the father, or have them not smiling and looking homely or showing the woman looking like she just got beat up. Showing all those things would be too blatant, but if they were going for subtle racism they would have incorporated at least one of the things I mentioned. Now if the site had a section with dozens of pictures and all were people of color it might actually mean something. Had the news storied showed a single black person at popeyes it might have just been a coincident, but they showed half a dozen, so it wasn't just by chance.

I didn't interpret the story to be racist at all, it didn't even cross my mind. What concerns me is that the word n*gger appears almost 200 times in the Youtube comments, usually in an extraordinarily harsh and racist context. Some of those comments are brutal.
That's America for you, if a liquor store had ran out of wine they wouldn't have ran a news story showing angry white females complaining there wasn't any more wine. So why did the run this one? The people who used the N word in the comments represent far more than just a few people. A lot would think it, but wouldn't actually come out ever say it. Some might not even know they're thinking it, but if this story made them laugh that hard they should take a good look at themselves in the mirror. At best this is "ok, it's black people and chicken, I get it, it's MILDLY amusing" The majority of my friends are black, and while most of them like Chicken, I have never seen one go ape shit over it. So I don't see what exactly is so humorous here. The stereotype goes well beyond simply that blacks love chicken. That's no more funny than white females loving wine, which is another stereotype which is pretty much true. I'm not sure where people get the idea that there are millions of black people who run around screaming and dancing when they eat Fried Chicken. They pretty much eat it like any white person I know.
I know many black people that like wine. They drink the good stuff like Cisco, Boone's Farm, Maddog 20/20, all the quality one's.
All you mentioned are 10 times the price of most wines white females drink. 2 Buck Chuck & the 5 liter shit in a box come to mind. What's your point? Oh that's right, you don't have one.
considering I could get MD 20/20 for $3 a bottle in college I don't think you can find anything cheaper really
