Pope says God wants him to stay

Well...if he's infallible...I guess there really is a God.

I just was discussing this with my wife last night (she is catholic, I'm an athiest). We both agree that we think a new Pope might be needed for the Catholic church. John Paul II is too conservative and the world has changed dramatically in the last 25 years. Of course neither of us think the church should change dramatically nor should it change quickly. So we don't think a radical change in Papal policy is a good thing. But there are three issues that we think a new pope could bring up that would do the world a lot of good:

1) Equal rights for women. Sadly the catholic church is based upon many sexist beliefs. Yes we know the Bible is sexist, but times have changed. Most other Christian religions allow women to be the equivalent of a priest. Until the church changes this policy there will be several continued problems: more sexism in the world, a continued and dramatic shortage of priests, and continued problems with child abuse in the church.

2) A revamped viewpoint on contraception. When John Paul II got into office, the pill was a new item. It was too early for the church to consider it a viable option. But now we know it is safe and it doesn't cause anyone to die (an IUD aborts all fetuses). The benefits of this: the abortion rate would plummet as people don't get pregnant in the first place (and isn't that a major goal of the church?), and it would dramatically reduce starvation in the poorer countries (ie less unwanted children with no food to feed them).

3) Better methods of dealing with priest issues. I don't need to elaborate on the abuse side - there are enough threads on that. But other priest rights need to be discussed. What about allowing marriage? What about allowing the freedom to choose which city/state you live in? What about providing more support to priests confronting personal issues?

How about Merry and free spirited priests?

As an athiest, I'm curious as to why you care about what the Catholic church should do.

Maybe because they control, direct or at least advise the behavior of millions of people around the world?

..... unbelievable!

You don't have to believe it for it to be true. The god of Catholicism is Lucifer. This is why they hold mass on Sunday which is the day of the sun god Ra (Lucifer) so they can give praise to their god. It also explains why they pray to idols (saints) and worship images (the cross, statues of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, etc.). It is widely-known that the Jesuits worship Lucifer and it is they who are in control of the Vatican and their puppet, the Pope.

This post really just highlights your ignorance on the Church and it's teachings. I'm not blaming you for that, as you said, you are an atheist, but it's always nice to know the subject before you comment on it.

Wow...casual gay references can get you banned, yet we still have to put up with stupid shite comments like this....

Merry and happy people bashing is a no no, It's politically correct to be athiest though. This is why they are removing any reference to God outside of the church

The truth can be offensive to those who don't want to hear it. If it's against the forum's rules to state one's opinion then I guess there's no point in any of us being here.

Buddy...there is no truth to the garbage you are posting, and I take offence to you presenting it as truth. Why are you intentionally misleading people? Or who taught you such horribly inaccurate things?

Shouldn't you be typing that as L-c-f-r, J-s-s, M-ry and the P-pe?

And why the sudden turn on your "G-d"?

Oh wait...you're -rth-d-x so you obviously think *your* religion is superior to Catholicism which thinks its religion is superior to others. In fact, all Christian religions think theirs is the one true religion and all others are bound for an eternity in some form of hell.

See why religion is a useless thing that ignorant people coddle themselves in?

Sure, no problem. I don't have a "religion" per se. I guess you could say I'm a Christian in the most literal meaning of the term. I believe in the word of G-d and that salvation comes through Yeshua HaMashiach ("Jesus Christ"). I believe one's faith in Yeshua is validated through their adherance to the Mosaic Laws, and most importantly, the Ten Commandments. I believe we are living in the literal end times of the book of Revelation and that Yeshua will be returning shortly.
Concerning my past, I was raised a Lutheran but gave up my religion and beliefs sometime during my teen years. I regained my faith only earlier this year and have since come to the conclusion that religion is not a good thing (Yeshua himself said he is not in favor of "religion").
