Pope says abortion could lead to down fall of democracies

Pope John Paul II on Wednesday lashed out against abortion and warned that its practice could lead to the fall of democratic regimes.

"The church affirms the right to life to every innocent human being at the moment of its existence," he told participants of the eighth general assembly of the papal academy.

The pontiff warned against the "grave danger that the false interpretation of human rights poses in not taking into account the reality of human nature, which can drive democratic regimes to transform themselves into totalitarian regimes."

"The distinction sometimes made in certain official documents between a human being and a human person to then apply the right to life and physical integrity only to people who are already born is an artificial distintion without scientific or philosophical foundation," he said.

"Every human being, from his conception to his natural death, has the inviolable right to life and deserves all respect due to the human person," he added.

I don't think that's not what he said 🙁

He said the badness that leads to abortion can also lead to democracies falling apart...two things caused by the same thing, not one thing causing the other

That was the title of the article.

Yeah I'm not so inclined to listen to the pope.

More like "the evils of overpopulation and a high birth rate will lead to social stratification and a lack of democracy."

It has never ceased to amaze me how old men in Rome who don't have sex will sit there and make such
proclaimations.

What amazes me is the total lack of faith that he has in human nature. It can drive democratic regimes into totalitarian ones? Please!

Well let's stop abortions then and give every unwanted child to pope to take care of. Let's see how he likes it after he has 100 kids screaming and running around him.

Yeah, he also thinks that Priests who molest children should be exempt from laws of the state and should be dealt with by the church, and "let god render the final judgement".

ah, but there's no problem with castigating women in the confessional week after week for the sin of practicing birth control.

I am not fully informed on the subject but I beleive the Catholic church is only against some forms of birth control.

<< What an idiot. When will he leave this world of failing democracies? >>

KK just because you disagree with his point of view does not make him an idiot. In fact it say more about your intelligence than his.

Yeah, all the ones that are effective

<< Yeah, all the ones that are effective >>

Actually I think it is more along the lines of all the ones that are convenient.

Again I do not proport to know much about the subject. I am sure there is literature available on it but unfortunenatly I have other thing to attend to at the moment.

The only method allowed is so called "natural family planning" which usually results in babies number 3,4 or 5

I'm sorry but I take serious issue with the concept of of people who have removed themselves from the concerns of family life damming other people to hell for reproductive choices that they will never be faced with themselves

Baffled is right on the money; NFP. Natural Family planning, when practiced effectively, is 70% effective. When it's practiced otherwise, it's about 45% effective 🙂

I got the whole lecture in highschool 🙁

I personally think that the Catholic Church's position can be found culpable for many of the problems with poverty etc in Central/South America. That's just one part of many, many problems that lead to poverty etc though.

How would you know? 😀

So freedom of choice to get an abortion leads to totalitarianism. I guess forcing society to conform to the church's policies is a much more "liberal" and unopressive route!

Give me a break J2P2 (John Paul II)!

I agree, rediculous. I'm totally fed up with the Catholic Church, and their stance on a lot of things.
C'mon, what should we expect from a Pope who demanded "the extinction of Bolshevism in Spain, Mexico, and Russia"?
