Edit: ITALY'S SKY ITALIA QUOTING VATICAN SOURCES SAYS POPE'S BRAIN, HEART STILL FUNCTIONING...

Reuters: Italian media reporting Pope John Paul II has died. Details soon.

hmm...CNN's taken down the Breaking News banner and I don't see anything on MSNBC, FOXNews although Drudge has a headline but not details.

Some-one in the Italian media may have jumped the gun based on information leaked from within the hospital.

I wouldn't joke about this.

Gerald Ford and a pack of wolves now.....

He is.......their making the proper contacts, preparing an official announment, and making arrangements.....bet on it.

cbc exceprt:

The 84-year-old's breathing was shallow and his kidneys were failing, a Vatican release said at about noon EST. His blood pressure was also deteriorating and at one point his electrocardiogram was reported to have gone flat.

So he is currently 'not dead'. Yet.

Since recovery seems so unlikely, I hope he passes quickly and peacefully, so the Church can move on.

You may be right. There is an official method to determining the death of a Pope, and until a few moments ago one of the key players in that was giving a Mass outside of St. Peter's. Regardless, his death is very close.

Interesting statement.

He decided not to go to the Hosptial, no chance of being hooked up to artificial life support.

There is a lot of mysticism mixed up in Catholic (and Anglican) rituals. Most of it has been stripped out of other protestant churches, but it is very much a part of the Catholic tradition.

I may not have agreed with everything he had said, but I respected him tremendously because his opinions came from a pure foundation. He cared about all people regardless of race, gender and economic status. He will be missed. 🙁

Guys I am Catholic and think this is sad.

However given the day i cant stop thinking about this as an Aprils Fool joke. They say he is dead then all of a sudden the man rises up and starts doing a dance.

I know I know it is horrible but cant stop thinking about how funny it would be.

I am Catholic (raised that way anyway) and I think it'd be funny, but in a sad, don't-want-to-ever-admit-it kind of way. Wait, did I just admit it?
