Popcorn

Popcorn is great. I've got one of those old style poppers and I can get some really nice fluffy popcorn. I love adding some butter and adding a bunch of salt and kicking back and relaxing while watching a movie.

I'm not such a fan of the microwave popcorn though. There's never enough butter or salt so you have to add your own.

I am currently addicted to ACTII's kettle corn....

I can go through a whole bag like I hadn't eaten for days...

Best way to cook pop corn is with a Whirley Pop. Turns out just like movie theater pop corn when you use the right seasoning. Of course the absolute best is to use one of those pop corn machines but those are expensive. It's also great to get the prepackaged units with the kernals, oil, and seasoning all in one package. Then you always get just the right amount.

How much did it that old style popper cost you?

Edit: Oh and popcorn=:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That Pop Secret "Homestyle" uses table salt, and table butter.....good stuff.

As someone earlier mentioned, ACTII is d@mn good, and cheap to boot. I get like a 15 pack for $3.xx.

That "Homestyle" is the best of the microwave popcorns.

I bought some of the microwave "sweet" popcorn last week just to try. God, that stuff is terrible tasting. Threw the whole box in the garbage.

My popcorn is full of flavors. Sometimes I'll add just one, and other times I'll add them all.

[*]A dash of pepper will really give you a much more dramatic experience. I usually use black pepper, but a dash of red cayenne pepper is also quite good.
[*]I've never tried mashed garlic like mentioned above, but I have used other forms of garlic quite a bit. It makes popcorn so much better. What I do is to use garlic salt to replace most of the regular salt. Garlic powder works as well.
[*]I always mix different types of butter: real butter, powdered butter, squeeze butter, etc. The more types you add the more complex and better the taste. Usually I have 5-8 types of butter and 1-3 types of oil in each popcorn batch. I always keep it at least 50% real butter, the rest are just for hints of other buttery flavors.
[*]Try adding dried minced onion to the butter as it melts. That'll soften up the onion and it adds a lot to the popcorn taste.
[*]Seasoning salts in limited quantities can really perk up an otherwise bland bowl of popcorn. Again, use these sparingly.

Did you look that up or was it off the top of your head?

It's all great until some jerk spills it. To this day, I'm still finding popcorn in my sofa after someone spilled a whole bowl.

I'm not sure... my family has always had it. It's like 25 years old at least but it's great. It has the little butter tray on the top so your butter melts while the popcorn is popping. It's really awesome!

How would I be able to look it up? AFAIK Safeway.com prices are different than Safeway B&M.

I recited that from memory because we were at Safeway last weekend buying groceries. Also on the last page of the Portland Tribune newspaper is a $10 off $50 coupon. So we actually saved a little more, of course we didn't spend the entire $50 on popcorn only.

Cliffs Notes:
Safeway B&M has (had?) Buy 1 - Get 1 Free with Club Card savings
$0.75 manufacturers coupon from Sunday newspaper inserts
$0.50 Safeway double coupon from Tuesday "Food Day" newspaper
5% rebate on all gas station, drugstore and supermarket purchases with CitiBank cc
$10 off $50 coupon found in Portland Tribune newspaper
===========================================================
Awesome grocery savings.

Ask yourself, WHY PAY RETAIL? 😛
