I have never tried one....Do they make better popcorn than the microwave? who makes a good pop corn maker? The ones at walmart any good? Also, do you have to melt buttter and pur it on or do you put the butter in while it is popping?

The popcorn is a billion times better than microwave popcorn because you get to put whatever you want in whatever quantities you want.

Generally, you will melt the butter and poor it on.

We always melt the butter in the microwave. Whether it's better than the microwave is probably personal preference.

are you asking if people like air-poppers?

then yes, I prefer that to microwave.

Also, I prefer the air poppers because:

1. The popcorn IS better than microwave.
2. Most have a little cup on the top (where the hot popcorn comes out) that you put butter in, after the popcorn is finished popping, the heat from the process melts the butter and is ready for enjoyment!
3. More fun to watch than microwave popcorn.

Yup, that is the exact one I had! It is pretty much a blowdryer, just different shapes of plastic..

Here is the popper I use:

No need for anything specialized. A little oil in the bottom, throw in some corn, shake it around while it pops...

Result: best popcorn around.

i had a popper. i thougt itd be healthier....but it wasnt..cuz i ended up putting my own butter and salt on it. microwave is jsut so much easier.

Probably just a pain in the neck to clean. Use microwave popcorn.

If you want fresh popped with fairly easy clean up: coat the bottom of a 4qt pot with some vegetable oil and place in 1/4 of a cup of kernels. Then just turn the heat to medium (with a lid on the pot) and wait until the popping slows down/stops.

QFT.

Pan, lid, corn, oil.

This is sort of like that quesadilla maker thread. No specially designed, over-priced contraptions are required; keep it simple.
