when i set-up outlook express for aol mail it was ports 25 and 110,at some point it changed from 110 to 995,why is this and who may have changed it??outlook express 6
 
Those settings don't just change themselves. As bsobel points out, port 995 is the standard POP3 / SSL (encrypted communication) port. Don't know why a reboot is affecting your connections.
 
no port magic,actully dont even have aol installed on here,just using the mail,i set up settings manually about 6 months ago,trying to keep the crap to a minimum,google updater is baffleing me now,cant turn it off ,it keeps coming back,i like using the toolbar for the auto fill,but it is gone next,
 
Take a look at the OS' Services, if it run a Google updater service set it to Disable.
