Learn to type. :p

I have been for several months on my Droid X. Something about the location of the period on the stock keyboard just makes me prone to period-instead-of-space errors. Normally I just work around it, but when I see others posting or sending messages that look the same as mine do before I fix them, it cracks me up. :)

my winmo phone does this in an opera browser window, and its not missed keys. the period isnt near the space at all, and ive seen it kill the space and put a . before the last letter in the previous word without me doing anything but typing quickly. it slows me down when typing, but thats about it.

On my WinMoPho Surround, I often hit either N or . when I am trying to type a space. Something about the location of those keys compared to iOS, which is what I had been using. Had the phone for a month and a half, and I still do it.

Other than the keys being just different enough to throw off my typing, the keyboard is at least quite responsive.

I think swype is a cool concept, the only problem is that your finger is covering your next letter.

Using the index finger is OK but when I need to use my thumb for Swype, its a problem for me.

Yea it definitely takes some getting use to. You need to know where the next letter is since like you said you're covering half of the keyboard with your finger. I love it though but I know most people don't like it.
