poor performance on linux

I set up a new crunching computer running Ubuntu.
But the benchmarks in boinc are very poor, what can i do to raise the performance at least to the level of the same computer running windows xp? i thought about installing the newest linux chipset drivers, am i right?

There's nothing off the shelve you can do Phil!

BOINC and Linux don't play nicely together. It's been like that for a long time and that was the initial reason why people coded optimized cleints. The only way to raise your benchmarks is to use an optimized Linux client - which I don't have a link to, sorry. But I'm sure someone else in here has.
