as the subject says...
finally, VIA has announced the availability of KT266 chipset.
Unfortunately, I read somewhere that the performance sucks compared to Ali Magik1 chipset. Hmm....thought of buying the new MSI K7T266 when it comes out. I guess it's no use to have been waiting for almost 3 months for it. Seesh...
the good thing abt KT266 is that it supports USB 2.0!!

Heh...might as well get Aopen AK73- Pro(A) with firewire or Iwill KA266-R w/ RAID option...oh swell...

I believe the reviews you have heard or read about are for the P!!!, which does use the extra bandwith provided by DDR. Let's see what the birdy/duron can do.

I can say 2 things...
#1 Its still engineering beta boards. Wait to see how the the boards do when they are released.
#2 I wouldnt even mention MSI and VIA in the same sentance with performance. MSI makes stable boards, but their track record with Pro2A and K7T Turbo isnt looking good for performance. The MSI is the worst performing KT133A board.

I would take the early KT266 performance reports with a sizeable lump of salt. Best of VIA KT133A boards are outperforming ALI Magik chipset with PC2100 DDR in some benches, and I can't imagine why KT266's worst-case performance would be lower than that of KT133A's.
