Poor packing from Newegg

I've bought many items from Newegg before, but my last shipment is the 2nd time I've gotten a full array of components to build a system. I was very excited to open the large shipping box from their Tennessee distribution center, but I was equally shocked to find how little effort they have put in protecting my purchase.

There was literally a single sheet of butcher paper crinkled and rolled up to fill the open volume. Absolutely no cushion of what so ever underneath the individual component boxes. The crinkled butcher paper only filled out 25% of the open volume, meaning the components were free to move and shift around in the rest of the 75% open space.

At this point, I'm relying on the packaging engineer of the individual components to have done their homework, as Newegg added absolutely nothing to protect the shipment.

I've yet to put the system together because of my schedule, but I'm already mentally readying myself for some RMAs.

It was going to be an exciting build, but it's starting out with a bad feeling.

*I don't know where to place this thread, so please move this where ever it applies. However, I do think the AT members should be aware of Newegg's current packing practice, or lack there of.

That's pretty much my main worry for any online purchase I put out. Last night was the first time I ordered from Newegg.ca, hopefully they did a good job of protecting the components.

I've bought quite a bit from NewEgg. The only thing I've received damaged was a PSU with a small dent. I did receive an optical drive with no packing in the box but, the manufs. box the drive was in was padded very well.

I have purchased nearly $10K of goods from Newegg over the years and have never had anything show up damaged. I have noticed them skimp lately on packaging as you said but only from the TN warehouse which you also indicated you got this shipment from. Their CA warehouse has never been an issue. Hopefully everything made it OK but you know Newegg is the best when it comes to returns, it just sucks when they are the cause of them. Perhaps this is a sign of the times and they, like everyone, is trying to pinch every penny they can. It's a shame really.

Ordered a rosewill case about a year ago and just opened it - huge crack in the bezel. It was only $20 so I'm not going to complain about it to them.

Though I have noticed the same as well. Newegg shipping usually consists of a bunch of paper that is a bit thinner than construction paper. I've started shopping on amazon because of prime + better shipping in general. Newegg's prices have been rising for quite a while. They are obviously still the best place to buy parts however.

if i can buy parts cheaper on Amazon, i buy them on Amazon. or if the shipping at newegg is ridiculous. i go to amazon

Well, tomorrow a CPU and case arrive from Newegg, and I expect they will be packed appropriately. The case will likely just be in its own box, but the CPU should be in a bigger box with packing. Anything poorly done will be reported here.

To echo the complaints, I've been piecing a system together as they go on sale from different vendors. I've ordered two pieces from Newegg in two different orders. A 4pack of 120mm fans and 16GB of Ram.

The fans were in their own box, but also in another box with packing peanuts. The Ram was in a yellow shipping envelope.

The RAM make it fine, The RAM packaging wasn't tore up or anything so I'm not going to complain, but why pack a 15 dollar order better than a $100 order?

What gives?

Got a couple bare drives from their CA warehouse yesterday and they had a bit of bubble wrap around the drive and then in individual boxes surrounded by the heavy paper. Did a full format on each overnite and both drives are fine so far. 1.5TB Samsungs. I've seen a lot of complaints about bare drives in particular, so maybe they've made changes.

I just opened another package from Newegg (E-350 barebones, S0-DIMM and HDMI cable).
Again, a great packing job.

Newegg Rocks! 😎

I've had great packing jobs from newegg, and recently really poor. After my last experience (3 of 10 drives doa due to poor packing, spread over two shipments) I think I'm done. Or I'm going to place 1 order per drive to make sure it gets packed right. I did complain to newegg, and while they happily paid for return shipping I got no interest from them at all from the pics I sent of the package, and my concern for the packing of future orders. Mine was also from the TN warehouse.

I guess someone in management has decided they are going to save a few $ on packaging materials/labour in the hope that they dont get too many returns. Either that or the packers aren't doing their job properly.
