Nintendo Co. said full- year profit fell by about 38 percent and sales of its GameCube console lagged forecasts by about half, handing Microsoft Corp. the title of the world's No. 2 maker of video-game machines.

this is right after announcing better sales off of zelda
 
Anyone could have told Nintendo this would happen. They come out with a fisher price looking console and the games are mostly kiddie ones. They should have come out with a more appealing system and it should have had better specs. Everyone that grew up on video games is now in the age range of about 22-30yrs. They won't be into kids games anymore.

I think Nintendo will eventually do what Sega did and just stick to software.

I certainly hope they don't end up like Sega. I do agree their problem was their marketing strategy for their system... its just too damn kiddyish. The fact that they used some screwed up mini-dvd format so it can't play DVDs doesn't help either.

Non subscriber Link, as for my opinion I am Xbox all the way. It seems that Xbox is marketing my generation (late 20's) more than any other console (with ps2 close behind)

I'm sorry, but you are a grade A fool. The best games for Gamecube are not at all 'kiddy'. And some of the 'kiddy' games are still good, say whatever you want, if you actually have friends, Smash Brothers is one of the most fun games out there. And Nintendo won't make hardware? Seriously, do you have half a brain? Nintendo could live and thrive VERY well on Gameboy alone. Tell me how much competition there is there, or if ANYONE could possibly dethrone them in the portable market.

He does have a point, though.

Far too many people out there bought into this "kiddie" bullsh*t.

But in all seriousness, Nintendo is a very strong system with some excellent games. But then people shell out loads of cash on video cards and not so great games with latest graphics and whatnot. And they think that GameCube with its sh*tty specs cannot possibly be good.
 
im tired of heearing all this KIDDY nonsence about nintendo. i like how teh GC looks its nice and compact. unlike teh XBox which coudl be used as a boad anckor. also teh GC has alot of great games wheres teh XBox has 1 HALO. metroid, zelda, resedent evil, monkey ball, mario,... easily beat out anytyhing the Sh!tBox has. its just selling more cause its different and people like different cause they are stupid. if they didnt make "kiddy" ames they woudl loose their core audience 10-18. with just adult games you appeal to a smaller dempgraphic. and IIRC Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are selling like mad.

Most of their games are just plain fun ... they may not be as realistic as other games on XBOX or PS2, but they are just really fun and that's what counts

If the GC had anything even close to XB live I might consider it, but it doesn't so it is not an option...

Also I wonder why people keep mentioning "super monkey's balls" I have played that game and it blows, why even bother to bring it up??
 
silly fanboys.

Its about the games, not what processor a console has or if its a little purple cube. I've got all three consoles and right now...

Rayman 3 for xbox and Zelda for gamecube are dominating my time with zelda in a big lead.

Interesting article about Nintendo though.

I bought Xbox at launch and then sold it to make profit cuz I didn't have time for the games. Bought it again when the Sega bundle came out...but I still never had time for it. Everytime I picked up the controller I felt guilty and thought I should be using that gym membership instead! 😱

Nice way to quote my post while removing the one I quoted. I was merely pointing out how a Gamecube defender couldn't even craft a decent argument to support it and resorted instead to "they like different so their stupid"...sounds like a kiddy argument from a kiddy gamer playing a kiddy console...
 
"Poor Nintendo" is quite funny...considering that the company makes hella bank off everything they sell, unlike XBox which is hemoraging money out of MS..which doesn't really matter I'll admit..but to say Nintendo might go the way of Sega is laughable. They have billions in the bank and making cash off each sale. They could do whatever the hell they want and fall back on the GameBoy to keep the company profitable.

how much money do you think nintendo is losing to piracy?
 
Nintendo isnt going to stop making hardware no matter how many people think so, they alread stated at a press conference that they were in the handheld, software, and CONSOLE business INDEFINATLY, and that they are already looking into who is going to make their next system. And personnay i love the GC, i dont play kiddie games and everyone of their games i have played have been amazing. Also i like Nintendo's view of the industry, they make a game console to do jsut that... play games... from what i have been hearing about propsed uses of the PS3 and the Xbox2 they want to make them the center of your home entertainment, trying to do to many things will most likley result in all the features being ok and non be excellent, and for that i applaud nintendo for focusing just on the games, and not trying to force their way into my stereo setup.

and the only competition fo rthe gameboy is the upcoming handheld form Nokia, which is a cellphone, mp3 player, handheld game system, and i think it does sopmething else as well... looks ok but doesnt have a huge backing, and all they have said about the price is "definatly under $549" which makes me think they wont fair well against the 80 dollar gameboy....

not much i would say, i have seen a pirated game though, and a video of how they were made which requires taking the case of the gamecube and a DVD burner and some other stuff so its not worth it but it can be done!
