Poor iTunes performance

Just got a new laptop, the majority of my apps are installed at this point and everything runs great except iTunes. It's REALLY slow, and it's impossible to even try using the "cover flow" view without it seriously lagging (and CPU usage spikes to 30 or so in the task manager) This isn't a problem at all on my desktop (see sig) and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas.

The laptop specs are 2.2GHz C2D w/ 3GB Ram... I know iTunes isn't the most resource-friendly media player, but it shouldn't be a problem on this system.

Welcome to the craptastic world of itunes.

I swear they make it crap so you have to buy a mac.
Its the program not your computer.

If you have to use Itunes don't use cover flow. Only way around it.

it works fine.
it might be working on finding peak volume or whatever on your library if you set it to do so. cover flow is resource intensive though
for playing music its fine, people make too much of the resource usage.

itunes sucks balls dude. get something NOT made by apple. their hardware is awesome, but software sucks.

If the OP needs it for an iPod, consider RockBox It will give you FLAC support, the ability to transfer music via windows explorer (no itunes or other software (aside from the OS of course) needed, just copy and paste your MP3s).

not an Apple fan, but it's important to say that Itunes is considerably slower on Windows machines. on Macs, it's bearable. same case with Quicklime. at any rate, get a better and light weight player. i like Winamp. many here like Foobar.

What do you mean their hardware is awesome, isn't it just the same hardware any windows PC uses(Intel, ATI, etc)?
