All in all, we had over 200 horde rushing into Ironforge, needless to say the server crashed :(

Was still tons of fun though :)

That's the spot I'd always stay when AFK. It just feels so safe. Of course I was on a PvE server. Next time try to ride the underground tram to Stormwind.

you should have to announce a raid that big to a GM so they can allocate more bandwidth to the server

I remember the couple times when the Horde tried to raid Ironforge... one of two things happened:

a) The Horde raid group wasn't big enough and Alliance pushed 'em back. You gotta remember, this was the 60's days, so tons of people were outside IF dueling almost all the time.
b) The server crashed before they even got to the gates.

Sometimes Horde would come over for duels and stuff and that was always fun. But usually 'b' happened and we had an 'a' or two. Usually 'a' only got near Kharanos so it didn't have many problems with trying to update all the NPCs with all the players and the player's respective actions.

c) Horde used warlocks to summon 2 raid groups from behind closed door to old ironforge. Then aggros king. Unplayable lag ensured as insane amount of guard spawned and AoEed. King dies dropped nothing, one raid group gets the 1000ish HP. Horde player hearth home.

I'm thinking adaptive coding could solve the issue... but Blizzard just does the bare minimum these days. When you have a monopoly the incentive to give it your all and innovate is gone :(

The issue is with the massive amount of interaction going on, whether or not bandwidth is the issue or if it's the server actually being able to respond... if it's the first, then more bandwidth is an easy fix... if it's the second, then it's the way the game was designed.

more like 25-30, actually.

lineage 2 takes approx 3-4 months botting 24/7 in good xp areas to reach max level.

Final Fantasy takes like, 2 years. And sadly, I made it there... can't say there weren't moments that I really enjoyed. Like running from a 20 mob chain through the entire map and getting like, 15 people killed.

but people dont lose xp in FF11.

if you die in l2, u lose hours worth of xp. you used to even be able to drop gear (worth thousands of dollars) dieing to mobs, as well. it was so awesome.

Please tell me you're joking. FFXI had one of the worst pentalies for dying ever. You lost10% of your exp for the next level. That more or less means you're losing like 10 hours of leveling in later levels

That pic just shows me again why I'm not missing WoW. Virtually no guards seen in that shot, and yet if a freaking 10 man allied group goes into TM the idiots at Blizz has it set up so 50 death guards come out at you.

For some good server crashing fun have a 4 raid group + assorted straggler party enter UC. The first dozen guys to enter were able to start casting their first spell or start melee combat, and then the overload caused them to stick in those animations for about the next 15 minutes. I was one of the last ones down the elevator and all the NPCs were locked in immortal combat with the first couple dozen guys that headed down, so it being my first time in the UC I just walked around for about 10 minutes checking things out. When the server finally caught up, about half the raid groups just dropped dead and the others quickly went down to unseen attackers.

That gave us good bragging rights against the Horde and it took them over a year before they managed a reciprocal event. Brought about 2 and a half raid groups up to the gates of IF before that server started stuttering (announcement went out quickly and about every allied player had ported back to IF shortly after the computer displayed attack warnings went out). That time the server had about 5 rollback restarts before it went down hard for several minutes. Funny things was about after the 3 short reboot people tried porting out or catching a flight away from IF so they wouldn't still be stuck there, but when the server goes down again it would roll back time and they'd be right back in IF again  :D

eh 3 lvl 70s can compleatly kill everything in TM in a matter of mins, if you have a decently geared 70 mage you can literally just AE them to death if you get some heals

UC tho does have the infinite guards from nowhere thing going on, which sucks

I would be shocked if any game took more grinding than lineage 2. After 2 years of playing after work almost every day and a lot on the weekends I think I got level 74 or 75, I cant imagine FF being more than that.

It takes 2 years to get your first character to 75. Then, it takes a long time to get your Subjob to 37. And thats for 1 Character, and theres ALOT of them.
