Hi. I recently got a new computer and when playing games my FPS drop from 125 with no one on screen to about 25 whenever theres someone else. Anyone have any idea of what might be causing this? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Specs:
AMD XP 2200+
Gigabyte GA-7VAX KT400
Radeon 9700 Pro
512MB Samsung PC2700 DDR333

Orion! You need a better discribing title! More technical specs! Come on buddy! oh bump someone please help my friend out

download VIA 4in1 drivers and their miniport drivers from www.viatech.com.tw ...that should resolve some of the problems...or maybe, all...

download the latest 9700 drivers (never use stock drivers from microsoft) from www.guru3d.com...or from ati's official website...but guru3d.com also has the beta test drivers...and a forum...they tell u how each driver did for their video cards... (click on download, videocard drivers, ATI drivers)

get the latest bios for your motherboard

oh btw...what game are u running?....

yeah sorry tab...im not the best at describing stuff....anyways, ive tried the 9700 drivers and the 4 in 1 drivers as well already, and that didnt help. ive got to try the BIOS again also. Im running Soldier of Fortune 2 and the Unreal Tournament 2003 Multiplayer demo, both getting the poor FPS.

chk in ur bios just in case your cpu isn't being held back or throttled (?? amd throttles? )

i'm not familiar w/ the amd xp's...donno...chk if the fsb and multiplier are @ xp2200 specs...

What settings are you using in game? in terms of resolution, texture detail, etc?
Also do you have any form of Anti-alising turned on that might be lowering your fps?

When you were trying the new radeon drivers, did you make sure to fully UNINSTALL
all the previous drivers, rebooting, THEN installing the new drivers? I remember reading
that with the new catylist drivers you get horrible performance if you fail to remove
the previous drivers before installing the new ones.

are parts of your system overclocked? (probably huh?) if so what? maybe play around with
different speeds and see what happens

Edit:

Oh ya, Dan.. your name is TOOO long....
