poor DVD play back

I have 2 nearly identical systems;

One a Dell 530 and the other a home made; both have Intel G33 chipset MB used for video, Q6600 cpu, 3GB ram, WinXP SP3, K-Lite Codec pack 3.9.5, 16x sata DVD

The only difference is the resolution the monitor runs at the Dell is at 1280x1024 the home made 1600x1200 , both 32bit color, 60hz, analog VGA lcd monitors.

The home made one with a clean install of XP has jerky/freezing DVD play back. So I dropped the resolution to 1280x1024 and updated the video drivers to Intel's latest. Still the problem continues.

The Dell 530 with Dell's install of XP runs great.

Any ideas?

system specs

Are you having any issues with other apps/programs? That would help to diagnose the problem. By the sound of it, something may be wrong with the RAM, video, or CPU. Any of that overclocked?

system
ECS G33T-M2 motherboard
using onboard Intel G33 graphics
Crucial Balistic ddr2-6400 ram

Other programs seem to run good, even Vmware Workstation 6 with 2 other OS loaded
of course Vmware isn't running and services are off when DVD playback is attempted.

Yeah. It could be the optical drive, though the RAM probably isn't the problem if you're running VMware. Try swapping out the optical drive....then see if it works any better.
