i was the 2nd car from the front in a 4 car pile up. the guy all the way at the rear was at fault imho. my car got by far the worst of it. back bumper fell off, my car submarined the durango in front of me so the hood got pushed in. radiator looks a little bent but hasn't leaked anything. no airbags went off so i don't think it's totalled.

edit: looks like bits of it are bent all the way through the spare tire well up to near the back seat. the plastic bit that sits atop the trunk floor just in front of the spare well broke apart.

edit:
state farm just called me to tell me they were totaling it. offered $8,338.50, which isn't bad for a 2003 sentra se-r with nearly 90,000 miles on it, i'd say. that's about $7500 + ttl.

just got the appraisal, $6,208.49 including $3208.77 for labor. not worth trying to get a second opinion if the labor is going to be half the car anyway.

they'll only give me a rental through tuesday, which is BS. they won't give me a check until i give them the title. of course their office isn't open on saturday, and it's 3:30 on a friday. so it's not like i can buy a car tomorrow. dealers aren't open on sunday in texas.

last time i bought a car it took me 6 months to look for one.

think i could get this down below $18,000?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Did you get ticketed? In an accident of this nature here, everyone gets a ticket except the car at the front of the line.

My guess is that it will be totaled.

cops weren't called. they usually only come out if someone is injured.

I see. Just looked at the pics. I think I was wrong as it looks like it can be fixed.

yeah all the doors work, no airbags went off, no glass breakage, and no fluid leaks. no wrinkles in the body either. should be simple to fix.

Can't really tell about the rear end ... Looks like just the bumper cover, maybe the trunk lid. Can't see right rear fender in photos.
As to the front, hood for sure, radiator support is bent a bit, maybe needs bumper and grill .. Drivers fender looks ok ... can't see passenger side fender ... should not be too hard to get it fixed.

Should get it checked for frame damage, your tires could be effected by the alignment of the frame.

Hope everything turns out ok!

Don't know about the price but I had a 05 G35S 6MT sedan and I loved it.

Highly recommended. It's been the best car I've had and I've had BMWs, Lexus, Acura, Honda, Subaru, VW.

You know you have to press the gas when the car is in gear, right?

:p

Buy a Civic. I've been super happy with mine and I hear nothing but good things about the car. Just make sure if you get the sedan to have the dealer tighten down the suspension so that it handles like the coupe. I found the default suspension too soft like a granny car.

Poor car. However they are offering a good amount on the total. I think you would have been really lucky to get 7500 for it these days, although now u are forced to buy a car. I was looking at altimas yesterday. 08 with 15k miles are 18K all over the damn place and that is before dealing on price. 4 cylinder with cvt does 0-60 in 7.2-7.5 and gets shockingly good gas mileage. Car is large, too. Check them out.

IMO Nissan makes the best V6 engines, and in fact they are renowned as one of the best engine manufacturers in the world. They've always been known to have bad electrical, however.

I think Honda makes the best bang-for-buck V4 engines, plus they have the best manual transmissions and great fuel economy.

Mazda is a 3rd-tier Japanese manufacturer IMO as they lack reliability compared to the others.

I find Toyotas boring.

There you have it. My take on Japanese cars. :)

I have a soft spot for Nissan as my first car was a used 1986 300ZX and I had alot of fun in it (and got into alot of trouble).

did you ask to see if you can buy back the car?

i've always been curious on how much the cost would be to buy back the car.

right now they offered u 8k for the car, now if you bought it back from them with a salvage title how much would it cost you? i would assume 2-4k is what they would be asking. but i never found out myself.

didn't ask. not worth the pain in the rear to get it retitled, fixed, etc. the estimate was $6000 to repair and i'd be lucky to get that selling private party. a compact car with not so good gas mileage and nearly 90,000 miles on it isn't selling as well as civics.

what i really want is a twin turbo v6 mustang convertible, and of course that car isn't out yet. not to mention it'll be 35 grand and worth half that in 2 years.

so, do i get a gently used mustang gt vert at about 20K and my soft cap for payments, or get a 2006 g35 sedan that i don't really like the color of but it has 3.5 years and 70,000 miles of warranty left, but get very close to my hard cap for payments?

or do i get something completely different and save my pennies in the hope that ford sees the light and puts the ecoboost in the stang in the neighborhood of 375+ ponies in 2010?

i suppose i should call my insurance guy.

Are you really going to buy a Ford? My brain tells me yes, but my heart says no, for me at least. Something about it I simply cannot pull the trigger on one. I try, but it doesn't work, like a hot girl who just for some inexplicable reason cannot arouse.
