No need to listen to anything you want at any given time. Doing so just cheapens it like the radio stations that play the same song 10 times a day. What you do need is to listen to something you like at any given time. Having a 4GB SD card with a couple thousand songs is sufficient. Or go bigger if you really must, but a couple thousand songs is never a "small number".I never know what I feel like listening to at a given time. Segregating everything thing into a multitude of cards is a waste of time when I can just have nearly everything in one spot. How is smaller better with respect to not overplaying songs? I have my library with me and can listen to anything, with an SD card I ony have the small number of songs available on that card.
Have all your favorites on every card and then a random selection of whatever else you like on the others. Then you can listen to any of your favorites at any time and be surprized with what else comes along (remember you like it all since you put them all on). I just like keeping things fresh.
A great example is in December. I have a $2 SD card with my favorites, all my Christmas music, and some random other songs that I like. I listen to it in December. Why would I want those Christmas songs with me in March? That is just more crap to scroll through and get in the way.
