Pontiac Solstice becomes prototype; evaluations continue, but no approval given

Two sentiments I very much liked:

Lutz says that if the Solstice is produced, he would like to see it sell for about $18,900.

It was something that we felt was missing in our portfolio - a small, light, four-cylinder-only rwd architecture.

I would buy that in a second.

$20K and you get a roadster with a S/C 240-horse four (or, some have speculated, the old Camaro V6).
Plus the show car had a leather/titanium interior, the 6-speed manual from the 'Vette and steering from the WRX.

IMO, it has sleek, simple styling and even in convertible form, it does not look feminine, which is often a problem with small 2-seaters.

Add that to the fact that GM has dramatically increased their quality and this is the first Pontiac in recent memory I would actually want to buy. Let's hope they build it.

This thing better be built. If it sticks to the original plan, it's going to trash all roadsters around its price range. Cya later Miata, might see the S2000 a couple lengths back too.

I wonder where to send e-mails or whatever expressing interest in this car. The "contact us" page at pontiac.com isn't much help.
Anybody know?

Do you hate BMW for the same reason?

Nah, BMW manages to sneak it in their cars more elegantly.

What in the deepest abyss of he** is that???

I see Pontiac is turning up the heat on BMW in the race to produce the fugliest cars on the planet

If they go through with it, then dodge might make the razor to compete. I'm buying the first one that makes a hardtop version. I don't like convertibles.

The Pontiac has some Hardtop versions also. Si I would bet that they would make both, or at least have a hard top that bolts on, like the Miata or Vette.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think are the best looking cars around? Everyone seems to like the Solstice, and while people are not thrilled with the Bangle-ized BMWs, they are still far from the ugliest cars around.

i don't want a bolt on top..I've seen the one on the miata and on the boxster, I think they look lame. I want a real hardtop if I'm going to get one. I had seen a version of the solstice with a hardtop, and it looked really nice...

I'm not a very big GM fan, but that is one sweet looking car. I like the Pontiac twin grille look. Very sleek and sexy. And since my current car is a Pontiac Bonneville, it just makes sense to upgrade it to another Pontiac, right? 🙂

I haven't liked many cars lately.

BMW's E39 5's are nice, they're not "beautiful" but they do look very...commanding, don't know how to word it.
The E39 M5 is downright sexy.
The classic supercar brands can still make nice cars as well, the 360 Modena is a sexy beast, as are all current Porsche's cept for the Boxter, don't like that one.

Then there's a bunch of oldies, the 3000GT, RX-7, and 300ZX-TT are all really nice, as is the S13 200SX(much more so than the S14).
I kinda like the Viper too, doesn't look very classy, but extremely brutal, I hate the new one though, fugly as he**.

Basically IMO car design has gone down the drain lately, and the only companies that still produce good looking cars are the true supercar companies, like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, etc.

18,900? that waaay undercuts miata.

he got part of the mustang thing right, the other (important) part was that it was just a bunch of falcon parts and not a new platform, which is the main hurdle to solstice production
