Honda can get 240 Hp out of their 2.0 Liter VTEC motor in the S2000, and 156 torque. And this is supposed to compete. I just think its sad how much power GM is getting from these "Ecotec" motors.
You can't buy an S2k for $20-21K...

1. it probably runs on regular
2. the honda motor is a 2.2 liter
3. the honda costs 60% more! (hint: they don't really compete)
4. you're a dumbass

because um... GM doesn NEED to put more power out of that engine?

what is the base cost of an S2000? and thats EXACTLY why the S2000 is not a direct competitor in terms of pricing.

edit: OMG that car is sexy with the top up from this view

The car weighs 2800lb, that's heavy for a small car..

My GTI weighs 2900lb and has 180 hp 174 torque stock.. seats 4..

Also both get 28mpg on the highway, so no Diff. there.
The 2006 Miata has 170hp and 140lb-ft of torque.
OK so their NEW engine still makes less then the "old" eco-tec motor setup.
The next gen Miata also weighs 300-400 pounds less than the Solstice.

So you are saying its ok to make a crappy car/motor if you just keep its weight low???
First its look the new one makes more power, but still less then the OLD eco-tec. Nows its weight? Sorry but the miata is going to lose a PILE of sales when the pontiac comes out.

Doesn't the S2000 engine have 240 hp at 1000000000 rpms? :p

Being a soft top adds a significant amount of weight to a vehicle...

I think the miata is a nice buy (in part because of brand), and it's going to be cheap for a base price but I agree that the solstice will rape its sales. The miata is the ONLY cheap convertible roadster right now, and it carries with it a very effeminate notoriety. The solstice looks a lot better.

Miata has changed so little since its inception that it doesn't really matter which one you picked.

What the hell are you on?

You stated incorrect specs earlier in the thread. I simply corrected your misinformation. I'm sure there will be plenty of comparison reviews between this two cars this summer. We'll see which is better then.

I don't know...the rounded hood makes me think of a '60's Cobra. No powered roof though :( Nothing's cooler than the Mini Cooper's fully automatic remote control top. Ah well.

True, it's been a slow evolution. Here are a couple pics of all three generations side-by-side.

Mike, the pic you posted was from current Mazdaspeed Miata, which is not the new generation.

That's a retarded comparison, the power to weight ratio on the miata is probably better.

Saw a Pontiac commercial last night - says they will be in the showroom Summer '05.

It will only be amatter of time before they slap a supercharger on it, like the same motor in the Saturn Red Line, they also have a turbo model of that motor in the Saab 93 (I think that;s the model) It's a 2,3T that puts out 230HP

16.1 for the Solstice (weight/HP)
17.2 for the Solstice (weight/ftlb)
14.7 for the Miata (weight(2500)/HP)
17.9 for the Miata (weight(2500)/ftlb)

Ah no check again. ALL the specs I gave were from the makers site. Also we know how Mazda likes to overrate everything they own, sometimes so much they have to give away free stuff or offer to buy cars back.

Read somewhere that they're going to be working on turbo 265hp versions of the Sky and Solstice.

After having seen both the Sky and Solstice in person, I would prefer the Sky.

The Sky vs. Miata debate remains to be settled. I'd probably have to get behind the wheel of both to determine that.

265hp in that small car would be insanely fun to drive. jesus... that thing would be powerful.

ooh.. too heavy man, but it sure is beautiful... much better looking than Miata, but I would still go for the latter.
