Pontiac GTO from Detroit Auto Show

Love the look of this car, but you can't credit GM for that.
That's why it looks nice.. they didn't design the outside.. just a few little things.
the drivetrain/powerplant is sweet though!!

Pontiac,

I feel bad telling you this, but the sides/fenders are almost TOO plain! It looks about as exciting as a Honda Accord coupe....no wait put that cladding down!! I didn't say that, I DIDN'T SAY THAT!!!! 😉

It looks like a stretched out Mustang to me...

Very unoriginal. I want sporty. The Camaros and Firebirds were sporty.

That car speaks "wannabe BMW" only.

Sigh - GM really is snakebit in recent years. Is it really that hard to build a handsome, high-performance car with a comfortable interior and reasonable build quality? The GTO has definitely got a great drivetrain (at least if they did not change the Holden original too much), but the styling is bland and the interior will no doubt be replete with light-gray switches and knobs, various rattles and buzzing, and mousy fabrics.

I don't necessarily thing its UGLY... but its certainly relatively plain. Of course, you have to realize the average age of the buyers will probably be 35+ (the average buyer of a $30K+ car)... so that is probably a GOOD thing for sales that its plain.

It could certainly be a nice sleeper--it still has a small block V8--so Lingenfelter could do his wonders. <grin>

But, as a side note: does anyone forget that the original GTO was simply a LeMans (read: a plain-jane cheap car) with a big engine? Its not as if GM went and did "lets do this fantastic new two door!".... it was really a quick response to the Mustang--which caught GM with its pants down (they didn't have a hi-po small car at the time). And no, I'm not a Ford fan.... (in fact my dad used to have a '69 Z28... DZ302 all the way!)... its just that the GTO always co-existed with a "normal" base car.

Didn't Ligenfelter die in a drag racing accident sometime in the last year to a year and a half? I seem to remember reading that here.

Yeah, John L did die in a drag-racing accident about six months ago. But his company still exists (I shouldn't have used "he", I should have used "they").

But any good Chevy SB tuner could do wonders.... Mallett comes to mind. And given that there is room under the hood.... bolt-on parts should be aplenty.

Errr... wrong. He's in a semi comatose state right now, but still alive.

Wow... thanks for the correction. Glad to know that he's not, errr, dead. Sad to hear that his recovery isn't going well... and doesn't look good for the immediate future.

I just knew that he had been "permanently relieved" as the head of Lingenfelter motors--an acquaintance of mine works there. On topic, they are still churning out twin-turbos and 427 versions of the LS1/LS6.
