Co-worker of mine has a G6 and has had a bunch of problems with it. She also said that dealer service sucks.

Comparing a G6 (FWD, V6 powered, poorly received) with a G8 (RWD, V8 powered, very well received) is not really fair to this thread.

Not to mention that the G8 is really built by Holden (GM's Australian company) ...so there really is no correlation between the quality/reliability of a G6 and a G8.

Fair enough.

He's still going to have to take it to the Pontiac dealer for service though.

Why would he need to go to the stealership? The only reason he would have to go the stealership would be for warranty repairs (assuming there will be any).

I have been using independent service shops for years. They can do everything the dealer can.

My wife and I bought a G8 GT as our fun car. We both are very happy with the car.

You can run the car on regular and I take it on 500 mile round trip visits to my remote site.
Last time I averaged 24 MPG with a decent amount of city driving and a heavy right foot. I had the cruise set at 90 and did more than a few full throttle blasts.

The trunk is huge and the interior is roomy.

I took it to an OTD (open track day) at Waterford Hills Raceway and was very pleased at how well the car perfomed, especially when you consider that the car weighs almost 4000 LBs and Waterford Hills is a very tight track. I took my friend for a session and he was suprised at how well the car perfomed. My friend has been auto X and road racing since the 1990s. I have the base version so I don't even have the best available stock tires.

My wife wanted a new Mustang but I've had my eyes on the G8 so I brought one home on a test drive. I called her from the dealership.

Me: I'm bringing home a G8 for you to check out.
Her: What's a G8? Hold on, googling it.
Silence
Me: Well? What do you think?
Her: It looks like a Pontiac.

When she saw the car in person she said it looked much better than the photos. I tossed her the keys and she romped on the gas once we hit the main road.

Her: This is a keeper.

The car has much untapped potential since it's tuned for 87 octane and is very chocked up on the air inlet and exhaust.

i think the genesis is more of a luxo-cruiser, is it not?

the G8 is more a sport sedan and it certainly shows. don't forget the beast of a V8 that goes under the hood.

not sure... the G8 GT is more sporty (better 0-60, 1/4 mile, skid-pad), and start at $30k compared to $37k for the V8 Genesis

This is a woman who works in Customer Service and has years of experience at it so I respect her opinion. I didn't give her any of my bias either, I just asked her in passing what she thought of her car now that she's had it for a while.

Why the hell would you respect the opinion of someone who would buy a.....gasp.....Pontiac?

Hah, I'm trying to talk my wife into a G8.......but she wants an Enclave. BTW, how much did the track day at Waterford Hills cost ya? Need anything special other than a helmet? I'd love to abuse my IS350 somewhere other than the auto-X. What color G8 ya got?
