We're looking at a 2006 G6 GT to replace one of our cars. Can any owners here tell me how you've liked yours? Any info is appreciated!

Thanks!

Had the 4cyl base model as rental.

Interior is roomy, trunk is decent sized. You sit low, so ensure the passenger seat has height adjustment, i nthe base modle, only the drivers seats adjusted.

4cyl was buzzy and the trans hunted gears like no other. I hear the V6 is a major step up. Although I think I would forgo the GT with the 4spd auto and get the GTP version with the 6spd auto.

The panorama moonroof is also very nice!

I bought one for my wife last year. It's been great, no issues at all. I've driven it quite a bit, and like it. The V6 has decent power and it rides nicely.

I rented one, a 2007. I am a maxima driver and I must say I was very disapointed with the G6. The interior was all plastic and cheap looking, the red lights were distracting, the only decent thing on the car was the brakes.

I personally would never buy a car like this.

Most rental cars have messed up transmissions. It's because of people like me who redline them in 1st and 2nd gears during each accel. ;)

I got one as a rental car and didnt really like it that much (I have an 04 mazda6s). It looks pretty sharp, but doesn't drive as sporty as you'd think it would. Not to say that it drives bad, its just a bit misleading. Also, you sit quite low to the ground so be prepared for that. All in all, a decent enough car but I don't think that I'd buy one.

I am really dissappointed to hear that. I had a 99 Grand Am SE coupe and it drove really sporty. I loved that car so much I am thinking about replacing my current car with one. When I heard they were replacing the Grand Am with the G6 I was hoping it would drive as well but I don't like the look of the G6 that much anyways so I wasn't going to get one. Still, sad to hear they couldn't keep the same great handling/drive.

Rental car != higher trim levels

It is a safe bet they use a better suspension/better everthing on GT and GTP models.

I don't know how people can drive a rental and think they are qualified to give a review on a car. The rental has not only been beat to hell, but it will have pretty much THE LOWEST trim level options possible.

I would say they are more qualified than someone that hasn't driven one. :p

I had a rental G6 in San Jose a few weeks ago. I liked it... I thought it was fun to drive. If it had the base trim and engine, I didn't notice.

The only thing I didn't like about it was that I hit my head everytime I got in and out of the car.... and I'm not even tall (5'8").

I attributed it to lack of experience... I've driven a full size SUV or Pickup for the last 10 years...and very seldom drive a "car" anymore. :)

It was given to me as a rental when I totaled my 92 525i last year. For an American car, it looked great, and it was roomy. The interior sucks, but it gets the job done. I wasn't disappointed.

If you think a 99 GA SE drove really sporty and had great handling then you'd think a base model G6 was a Ferrari.

I would seriously recommend test driving one at the dealer and not paying attention to those who've driven the rental versions. Despite what they might have said you might like it. The best way to get an unbiased review is if you do the research yourself. ATOT is the worst place to go for advice on American cars.

Hehe I test drove an 06 GT, then went and bought a 07 LT V6 Malibu. I looove the Malibu but the GT just kind of failed to impress me in any way. The Malibu is a pretty unexceptional car but it has outstanding reliability and a ton of power for a great price.
