[POLLING GOODNESS] Oh, these forums suck these days.

Back when the Forums changed to the evil incarnation they are today, I wasn't too fussed about the change- the interface was nicer to use, etc.

However, what with JRun, .NET upgrade, quoted text in Opera, poll problems, extra links being created next to avatars, etc ad nauseum, I want the old forums back. These ones suck, they really do. They're slow, buggy, and fall over as soon as you fart near them.

Yes, I am mindful that the forums are free and we don't pay anything to use them, and that Jason et al do a good job keeping up with the bugs, but a pre-release version of phpBB would be better than this. Hell, writing letters to one another would be better.

Who's with me?

I agree that they suck but we are also in the middle of moving to a different platform. The bugs will be ironed out shortly.

I expected people to act above the age of 12. I see that's impossible with 95% of the people around here.

Here's what I heard:

Wahh wahh wahh.. wah... wah wah wha whine bitch snivle complain... whine wah wah wah...

Hey, why don't you pony up the cash, hardware, admin time, and maintenance for free to get them the way you want...??

Or better yet, refrain from using them if they offend your sensibilities so much... yea, there have been bugs and issues, deal with it.

Oh, so I'm not allowed to have an opinion now, is that it?
Re-read my post:

Yes, I am mindful that the forums are free and we don't pay anything to use them, and that Jason et al do a good job keeping up with the bugs... <snip>

That's the precise reason that I haven't bitched at all before this about the forum upgrade.

yeh, errors and more error:

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

There are apparently still a few subscribers, so the forums aren't free for everyone. If I were a paying subscriber I'd be pissed. But since I'm not, I'm just indifferent. Most of the threads aren't even readable because the right side of all the text gets cut off. And the huge flashing poker banners are annoying, especially since we're not allowed to post poker threads. That really gets my goat.

Godammit, I had a fscking error trying to post this :|!

ughhh, just got one of these. They don't go away as easy as the JRun errors. Usually I just had to refresh a couple of times to get rid of JRun error.
