I have a 17" monitor and I use 1280x1024, even though it's not technically the correct aspect ratio.

It's just one of the settings that my video card and monitor can run. On that little slider, it's the one right after 1280x960, which is the correct ratio.

have a 20" and I run at 1280 x 960, so on a 17" I'd probably run at 1152 x 864

On a 17?

Yup. The hardwares are nothing spectacular by today's standard. GF2 Ultra video card and 17-inch Sony Multiscan 200GS. 85hz.

its not the hardware that i would wonder about-- its your eyes-- that has got to be some small writing on your screen.
