I'm not going to read the article. I don't care about paper launches at all and I think we should all boycott them.

Paper launch with the AT team benchmarking the card in question?

I definately think it's impressive.
It is what the NV30 should have been, and some more.

Won't be buying one though, I never buy the highest end.

Looking forward to fanless NV35 cards for under $200 (that perform more or less like a 9700 non-Pro) to put in my main system. :)

a DX9 game will make it cry.

On the other hand, it is the fastest card out for DX8.1 titles, and the only DX9 test there is (albeit a crappy test, mother nature)

Why do you all bash the price when the 9800Pro 256MB costs the same and there are $300 and $400 versions of it coming out?

I some how knew that nvidia would be able to make an awsome product this time around. I cant wait for this sucker to come out then ill be upgrading my gf3 with it. The wait is killing me.

Also, if you always wait for the next best thing you'll always be waiting and playing on a poor performing computer. Not fun.

Is this a confirmed product, or is it just a dream?

Nope...maybe the NV55 or R550 in 2-3 years for me! :D

No, he's right. It's a paper launch. The card that they were benchmarking is not the finalized card. That hasn't even been designed yet. They won't be ramping up production of NV35 until mid june. That's just for the GPU. Then they have to be sent to the board makers who will then produce boards for them and put them into the market place. So we should see them in stores in a couple of months. Yes, that's a paperlaunch.
The 256MB Radeon 9800, on the other hand, you can buy right now from ati.com

Is it even "fair" to compare the 256MB 9800 Pro to the 256MB 5900 Ultra?

As far as availability goes...

128 MB 9800 Pros are VERY hard to find in the store. 256MB cards will be limited for a while I'm sure. Heck, I even found a 128MB R9800 Pro on ebay that fetched over $455! :Q :Q :Q

My only reservation is the POS signal quality, pointed out in either firingsquad or anandtech (I forget)

What are they using to measure this? I've been in the DVI realm for two years so I couldn't even tell how good an anlogue signal is. Heck I thought these issues were cleared up with the GF3! :Q

Definitely not. They're as bad as ever with the NV35 reference board.

Back in September I picked up a 9700 pro. It was a gamble at that time with the NV30 due out before Christmas. I was concerned I'd drop fat cash on a card that would be mediocre in 6 months. Well here it is 8 months later and I've never been happier about purchasing a card in my life. The NV35 is impressive and I'm kinda glad too see nVidia pull it together again. I seriously doubt I'll buy one. Holding the performance crown today doesn't really mean anything. Anything above a GF4 is more than sufficient for any game out there. You might get me to buy a $500 video card after doom comes out but you're just wasting your time until then.

I guess my overall impression is one of awe and *yawn*.

Was that in every review...or just one?

It does say in Anand`s NV35 preview,

The only problem we encountered with our GeForceFX 5900 Ultra board was that the analog video output was incredibly blurry. For a $499 card we would expect better, and we can only hope that shipping cards won't have the horrible output we noted on our reference board. We do have high hopes that the problem will be fixed as the board that we had will change considerably before hitting mass production, for starters, the card is supposed to be as long as a GeForce4 Ti 4600 in its final revision:

I would expect that to be fixed as well ,you can bet Nvidia have been reading the NV35 preview articles all over the web, besides companies like Leadtek/Gainward won`t let that go by without being fixed in their FX cards.

Yeah...I was just trying to get a feel if this was a bad card or a trend across the chip/cards in general. I read 3 or 4 reviews and I only recall seeing it mentioned in Anand's. Gonna go back to the other reviews to look for the issue to see if it was noted.

The NV35 benchmarks look good but what good are they since they won't be shipping cards till July/August. By that time, ATI will be either shipping or announcing their answer to the NV35. Probably a Radeon 9900 Pro with a higher clocked core, DDRII and perhaps some more architecture enhancements. Just a little something to wet our appetites more before R400. Of course Nvidia could possibly be working on another refresh for NV35. I doubt we'll see R400 or NV40 till next year.

ATI still holds best value and I don't think much of anything will be worth looking at till the next generation of cards come out from the both of them.

I feel anything faster than a 9700pro is a waste of cash, that's just my thought though.

Ati still holds the best value? did you not read the entire review?

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB MSRP $499

EXACTLY the same price as the NV GFFX 5900 Ultra

You sir, are an idiot.
He never said that the 9800Pro was better value than the 5900Pro.

Best value != cheapest top of the range product.

Most people would say that the 9500/9700 pro cards are the best value, what seemed to be suggested was that the 9700Pro was the best value, and I woul dagree it probably is.

It's about 66% of the price, and offers perfarmance that isn't too bad, and will keep up in the near future.

nVidia hold the top end, but they need to get moving with the lower end NV35 cards, the 9700 is approaching (slowly) competition in general with the 9500Pro and 5600 Ultra.

Even though my view is subject to bias since I own one, I'd say the best value in the top end cards is definately the 9700pro. The best card is clearly the nv35, but the 9700pro has much greater value.

However, the absolute biggest bang for your buck is probably the GF4 Ti4200. It runs anything you need it to and is cheap as dirt. I'd also say that given the current release from nVidia, the 9800 is NOT a good value (slightly outperformed at the same price).

Just my opinions and all of them are easily arguable.
