My cousin just took the SATs (we are in Canada, and she took them so she could apply to LSU), and from what she told me, it was REALLY easy.....She said she didn't study AT ALL, and she got something like 1250....

I always thought the SATs were really hard, but from what she tells me, the Canadian education system prepared her really well.....Then she says that if she actually studied, she could have aced it :)

MAN, I hate when this topic comes up.

Keep your damn test scores to yourself. It doesn't impress jack once you finish your undergraduate degree. I am NOT impressed.

Feel free to assume that my motivation for writing this is jealousy because my test scores must have been low. If you're lucky, one day you'll accidentally get the point...

Who said I was trying to impress anyone? He asked, I answered, no big deal. Settle down, chief.

Rio Rebel, this topic pops up at least twice a week. I suggest a new field in our profile named 'SAT Score:'

Rio - I would think the forum members would find it helpful to know the mental superiority and respect my 1830 entitles me to around here.

Just another thing, a 1600 SAT score won't get you anywhere.
I bet my nuts that most respected colleges also look at other criteria.

Rio,

That might be true for you, but for many college and high school kids, it is a thing of importance.

BTW, I got a 73 on math and 80 on verbal on the PSAT (multiply by 10 to get SAT - about 1530). I'll be taking the SAT in April.

<< If I were on the admissions board at a prestigious school, I'd rather take someone who got a 1400 and has a lot of activities than some braniac 1600 who has zero social skills because his nose is always in a book (not to mention that he thinks he's hot sh!t just because of a lame standardized test...). >>

Not all schools are party schools. I don't think colleges junk people with 1600 on an SAT, unless other parts of their application are screwy. For example, a 1600 SAT with a 1.2 GPA and lower half of class rank would just say that person doesn't care about school.

Vrolok
Hardly any freshman / sophomores take the SAT. If you did, you are one of very few, like your score would be (*cough* BS *cough*). Out of my high school class, I don't know one that did. Also, a score of 450 on the SAT is horrible. Its less than an 11 on an ACT. How did that person even memorize football plays??

1270 on the SAT
30 on ACT

Man, I feel stupid when I see some of the high scores you guys racked up. Oh well, good enough for Texas A&M. Go Aggies!

Well, duh, of course. But a poor SAT score won't exactly help your application. Nobody ever got rejected cause their score was too high. ;)

Anyone who posts their standardized test scores on a public forum has emotional issues that far outweigh any success they had on their exams.

Napalm, I'm perfectly calm...I just think you're a joke.

Go ahead, guys...post away. Maybe "my Dad can beat up your Dad" will be next.

Pathetic.

He makes me laugh - and I love him for that :D

Lay off him - he really doesn't show off with his score or grades....

Duckers,

Your statement is neither right nor wrong, because all universities are not alike. The very top schools (I mean VERY top) usually look far more at the total package. The schools who want to attain that top level often go on the test scores more, because it gives an air of objectivity that they can use to try to associate with the big names.

The rest of the pack will almost always snatch up a high test score. It's a good risk - if the student pans out, he or she may bring big bucks after graduation in the form of donations or publicity.

1560, and I blew it off. (Thank god my high school prepared me well.)

And out of curiosity, what is a good GRE score? I got 2170 (the verbal was what got me, I think the words were made up).

Oh, please. Emotional issues? Talk about reading too much into a thread.

I agree completely with your point that an SAT score is meaningless in real life. But hey, high school and college aren't exactly real life, now are they? At that stage in your life, SAT scores and grades are a rather important issue to most kids. Let kids be kids, man.

In addition, SAT scores can play a rather important role in determining scholarships and the like. If I hadn't done well on the SAT I wouldn't have received my scholarship. PSAT and SAT scores are the primary method of determing National Merit Scholars. If you're trying to tell me that a $29,000 scholarship isn't important, I don't know what to say to you.

I don't disagree with you. Schools hardly ever throw out anyone with a 1600. I was saying what I would do.

I didn't mean to take away from your 1590. By all means, enjoy it.

Napalm, see if you can understand this concept:

As part of an admissions packet that impacts whether you are admitted and/or receive scholarships, test scores ARE important.

As part of a thread where small-minded people with insecurities about their intellect need to impress people, test scores ARE NOT important.

If you still don't get it, maybe Kaplan will write a cram course in social skills one of these days.

Rio, I was refering to top universities.

I say this because of my own experience. I got a high SAT score, had a 3.9 GPA, almost all the AP clases, but I never did community service nor played any sport. I did not get accepted into either of the two ivy league universities where I wanted to go. Instead, a friend of mine who had a lower SAT score and GPA than I did, got accepted into one of those universities. That kid would not stop doing extracurricular activities in high school; student government, football, track, chorus, worked a part-time at McDonalds.

So guys, if you are planning to get into a top university, don't do the same stupid mistake that I did.
