Well it's a new month and there's new hardware out. I think this deserves a poll. :)

<< waiting for the claw hammer. till then I think I am fine with my Tbird 1.4 >>

I think I'll add that to the poll. :)

Put me down a undecided.
I'm contemplating making the jump to a Northwood/533 w/DDR.... IF I find a motherboard that officially supports PC2700 and the 5333MHz FSB that meets my standards.

On the other hand, I realize that my current processor is still fully adequate for my needs so it would be foolish to upgrade.... and my opinion of AMD is high enough that I believe they at least deserve the chance to sway me towards an AMD setup. So I may decide to wait for the ClawHammer, and see how that performs relative to comparable Intel systems, and how long it takes for decent chipsets to appear at a reaonable price.

Do we think that with all these new P4 CPU's on the horizon and with the scheduled drop in prices, Intel are worrying slightly about what ClawHammer will bring? I mean 2.8GHz by Q4 2002!

I currently have one rig with a 1.6a @ 2.4 on a 4BDA2+ w/ 512MB PC2700 Samsung @ 200MHz, and the other runs a 1.6a @ 2.4 on a P4B266-C. I will not upgrade until there is a cheaper P4 solution that scales better than the 1.6a. The P4 "B" is too damn expensive.

I will build an AMD rig when the hammer is available.

Oh the choices the choices... I turned into an AMD zealot when the Athlon was released, but now that P4s are cheap and overclockable, I dont know which to buy... I'll go for whatever gives me the best bang for the buck come July, till then my 1.3 Tbird does just fine for the most part

AGodSpeed,
Good idea for a poll. I voted, but does a P4 1.6a that is overcloded to 533 (with default of 400) go into the "400" category or into the "533" category, because no one will run it at 400. Anyway, my "play around" machine, ie, the one that costs very little and gets revised constantly is now a P4 1.6a o'clocked to 2.4GHz without hitting the top yet.

My main machine remains a dual Athlon (Tyan Tiger) that is very stable but in need of an upgrade, preferably to a Hammer of some type, at least 2200+. But, in order to upgrade, I need the processor to be released, shipped and priced below those pesky P4 Northwoods that I am already speeding up. Do I want to replace my AMD duallie with a Northwood; no, not really. But, AMD had better release something big (and cheap, ie under $200) by the end of May or kiss off its earnings this quarter. ClawHammer may be the hottest thing on the Earth, but it will require a new motherboard probably, new Windows install, etc. So, AMD, it is time to put out your best product, or else surrender the market for a while.

If your P4 is defaulted to 400MHz FSB, then that's what you choose for your poll answer.

All the speeds listed are default, otherwise I could put in 667MHz FSB.
