If you're paying a mortgage to the bank, do you count that as renting?

uh, whose name is on the deed of trust????

Doesn't matter. If you still owe the bank money, you're still renting it because if you stop making your payments, you're out on your butt.

If you own your house completely, try to stop paying property taxes and see how far that gets you. Does that mean everybody is renting from the government?

Well, property taxes are more of a yearly bribe to the extortionists we call government to leave us alone for another year.

But, basically, yes. Any places that has property taxes, all land is essentially leased from the government.

That's why I'm morally opposed to property taxes. Owning should mean owning.

Are you morally opposed to having paved streets, libraries, police, fire departments, schools and other services that are paid for from property taxes?

you should boycott these services to show your opposition to prpperty taxes...

Owning should mean owning.

Don't some states (ie. CT) tax personal property like cars even if you outright own it?

Also if you finance a car, would you say you own, rent, or leased it?

Bought my first house in December 2008. Great price for the area. Couldn't be happier with my decision despite whats going on with the market / economy.

Renting right now and for the next 2 years until I'm out of school. Once I graduate I'm going to live at home for a while to save up some money.

Own, bought the house in '90. I have a 15 year mortgage, which will be paid off in about two years.

does not compute...

1990 + 15 = 2005???

I guess you've never heard of refinancing?

I was just basing that from the information in your post...no biggie...
