If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have music from 1 calendar year, what year would you choose?

I'm going to say 1994. Some albums from that year:

Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
Throwing Copper - Live
Superunknown - Soundgarden
Unplugged in NY - Nirvana
Parklife - Blur
Definitely Maybe - Oasis
Grace - Jeff Buckley
The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
Dookie - Green Day
Purple - STP
Live Through This - Hole
Vitalogy - Pearl Jam
Ill Communication - Beastie Boys
Under the Pink - Tori Amos
Bee Thousand - Guided By Voices
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement
Bakesale - Sebadoh
Smash - Offspring

1984, the year Ride the Lightning was released, and, coincidentally, the year I was born.

why is it "1987 or earlier" when every other choice is just one year?

"I think 1762 was the best year for music because W.A.Mozart had his first concert. I guess I vote for 1987";)

I wanted to go back to 1977 and do a 1976 and earlier, but there is a limit to the # of poll choices.

1996 for me. Lot of great albums that year, and great music was still playing on the airwaves from '95. Not only that, MTV still played videos back then.

R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-Fi
Radiohead - The Bends (1995)
Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995)
Beck - Odelay
Counting Crows - Recovering the Satellites
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness (1995)

IMO 1997 was the last great year in rock.
