Because they are just so damn good. Fine, the HP series isn't tremendously deep or mind-blowing and they certainly aren't works of "literature" but the books are real page-turners. I think I read the Prisoner of Azkaban in 48 hours. OK, no big deal, but this is from somebody who takes 6 months to finish the LOTR trilogy.Originally posted by: Balthazar

Seriously, if you are not a child I cannot fathom why you would watch either the movies or the books.
If you want real fantasy book there are tons of good, more mature (and I don't mean as in Piers Anthony mature) authors out there. Not the least of which being Tad Williams, the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn Trilogy (4 books in paperback) is exceptional! And the Otherworld (or Otherland?) series was d@mn good too.
But I guess to each their strange own....
