Right now, I still think the PS2 has much better games. Everyone in the dorms plays PS2 as well, so I can borrow games and the what not.
Edit: My Sega Genesis 0wns you all!!! It really is more fun playing Sonic sometimes than any PS2 games.

PS2 for me! Xbox just doesn't have the games I like.
definately xbox. xbox live blows ps2 online away easily. Plus this theres a ton of xbox great titles coming out in the next few months in addition to the 20 or so great ones already. It may be just my genre preference but i cant count 5 ps2 games being released soon that i would want to play.

Compare that with Nintendo's 2 killer app's Metroid and Resident Evil 0 and PS2 with nothing great at all it looks like MS will come out on top for best NEW software this season.

Yes, but PS2 has a one year advantage over XBOX. If they didnt have more quality titles then there would be a problem. In 1 year XBOX had more 9.0 or higher rated games (reviewed by IGN) then PS2 had at that point at its lifespan. Only recently did the developers start loading PS2 with better quality games.

solid substance = rehash of MGS2 a year late
splinter cell will make substance not even worth buying if you have already played the ps2 version
ghost recon = stick to PC
Unreal = stick to PC
i never enjoyed shen mue on DC so that game does not interest me at all though some might
dont know much about the other games except splinter cell and after playing the demo i am very impressed but IMO that and
mech assault are the only Killer games in that list
PS2 has Devil May Cry 2 and FFXI and a whole lot more rpgs and that is what i like
i think True Fantasy and Phantasy star online (also available for cube) are the only true rpgs coming out for the x-box

Seeing a preview for Panzer Dragoon Orta and the fact that I NEED Shenmue II (even though I have the import for my Dreamcast) are reasons enough for me to get that huge and ugly Xbox. Let me tell you that I'm not happy about it, but that Panzer Dragoon preview just did it for me. I also think that a lot of good Sega games will end up on Xbox and I became a lifelong Sega fan the minute I switched on my Dreamcast and found myself amazed by it (also discovering games like Shenmue, Seaman, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure helped).
I have to admit that PS2 has some games I'd like to play, but I think going forward Xbox is going to have most of the good games that PS2 will have. I'd like to have all 3 systems, but I just got myself a GC this week and I really want to limit myself to 2 of the current selling systems.

MechAssault and Live blows anything PS2 has out of the water. I have had an Xbox since launch so I wouldn't buy an Xbox since I have one. There are a lot of games that the Xbox has that are as good or better than the PS2 has but since everyone has a PS2, their games get played a lot more and the word spreads around a lot easier. Acutally, I may buy another Xbox just because my brother keeps taking it out of my room so he can watch DVDs in the other room. Maybe I should buy him a stand alone DVD player for Christmas.

I don't know about just preference. There are a lot of people who just won't buy the Xbox because they don't like MS for some unknown reason. Also there are a lot of fanboys out there. I just read the comments here and it sounds like the problem with people defending the PS2 are a bit ill informed about the Xbox. I don't have a PS2 nor have I ever played one outside of Best Buy but I am very content with my Xbox so I don't feel the need to go buy a PS2.
I guess thats true, but me personally I dont own either xbox, ps2, gamecube. Im a rpg-type person so by current available titles ps2 would be my pick. Both xbox and gamecube dont have any currently that catch my eye unless ShenMue 2 is already out but Im not about to buy a console for 1 game.
