yeah, I think that the propensity to "nef" would be decreased if the postcount was taken away...maybe have it so that you can look it up, but not have it by every post.

Yup, exactly what I'm thinking. Too many people just post for the fact of boosting their post count, not to share what they think on a topic.

Maybe people would actually starting putting some thought into their posts.

if they oust post counts .. they should log hours:minutes:seconds logged into the forums

i can see the times now ... lol .. cheaters!

I never judge others by the number of their posts. There are plenty of "lifer/diamond/golden..." idiots over here, and just as many smart "juniors".

Our status should be determined by how long we're been a member, not how much we talk.

Now, the problem with that is that we have people who have registered and never, or almost never talk. Should someone be a lifer simply because they've made 10 posts in the last 3 years?

I've been around since long before the post counts began and visit multiple times daily, but only post when I feel I have something useful to add. Yet I just became a "Senior" a couple of months ago. I see a lot of people here with "advanced" numbers of post counts who post a bunch of "I'm in" and "Bumps" and feel they've got the right to talk down to others who don't rank as high (in general....not pointing any fingers!). Too bad they can't go by the number of visits, numbers of posts read, or time spent on the forums. Maybe that would help eliminate some of the useless drivel.....

I don't see any reason why they should remove the post counts. It gives me a general idea of who's been active frequently and very helpful on the forums. Of course there are always going to be exceptions, for example someone who adds little comment to a thread but posts very frequently. But I doubt there are many people who's main goal in being in the AT forums is to get a high postcount. Now for men like Scitex who have been around here longer than a lot of us, and who post very conservatively but are frequent readers of threads, don't forget that the date you joined is also displayed.

Also if they went by the number of visits, the number of posts read, or time spent on the forums the numbers would get too high and eventually meaningless.

They shouldn't count the Off-Topic posts. For the other areas its nice to see them so you know who is asking/replying to questions.

If you clowns would quit encouraging nefs, this wouldn't be an issue. Take it upon yourself to slap these morons around, and they'll quit doing it. We've had pretty good results keeping reposts to a minimum. The same can be done for the neffing. It's all in your hands.
