If you look at it from a business side, yea its very smart for the business to want to attract cops because not only does it make more money if they eat there consistently, but it offers more protection.

The cops, should be the ones turning the deals down and paying like they should. To avoid having to play favorites later on.

I personally think favoritism is very very ugly. I agree that someone who works at a business might like automatically having the cops on their side, but I'd hate to be the person on the other side of the deal. Much like that guy who posted a story about being thrown out of a bar and then even the cops were against him.

You risk your life to deliver suppliers Juan Valdez's coffee from the doldrums of Venezuela?!?!?
Everyone who gets into a vehicle on a daily basis risks their life. And this country is run by everyone, not just 1 type of people. If everyone was a cop, who would be delivering the coffee everyone drinks? We all work together to accomplish common goals, thats how society works. Without trashmen, we would all be living in our own garbage, maybe you should give your garbage men some coffee.

So technically, I shouldnt get a ticket because I work and fix the trucks that deliver the coffee and food to the stores/diners where they get it free.

this thread is atleast curing my boredome at work.

Your logic skills defy anything i have read.

And you can post online while delivering stuff? :D

I know in Star Wars, the Emperor convinced Anakin Skywalker a cup of coffee, and that's how Darth Vader was born! Dark Side Coffee!

I say yes. It's only one cup.

And if a whole gang of them show up, either:
- be nice and take the loss, or
- tell them that you can give out some free coffee but you're still running a business. They're reasonable people, I'm sure some would pay.

No. It's bribery. Any honest cop would turn it down if offered.

Considering you aren't offering it in exchange for any favours, stated or implied, what's the issue? You're just showing a token of your appreciation for the hard work they do.

Ah... but you are seeking an implied favor. You're hoping that the cop will hang around your place and defend it more from criminals than he would for other places.

No, I'm hoping that some asshole won't shoot him in the face during a traffic stop because "dem MoFockin PIGZ be trippin' on mah ride". While it's a hard concept to grasp coming from a young male, I respect cops and the hard work they do, and all I'd want is for them to have a little bit of a bright spot in an otherwise hellish day.

Hey, I respect good cops too. But they're not the only people with hard jobs and they chose to do what they do with their eyes wide open, so I draw the line at giving them special favors or breaks.

Someone did mention giving free coffee to postmen. Possibly all government workers? :p

PRO: I mean, does that 1 cup really cost you that much ? You're basically showing appreciation for the job they do.
CON: What if you did give it for free and he tells all his/her buddies about it and they all start coming to you expecting the same ?

No, were already paying for his coffee through our tax dollars, anyways.

Well maybe in pleasantville where the average cop is really trying to serve and protect people I would agree with you. But in MY expierences there are more asshole cops then not. Yes some do there job and they do it well. But for the most part they are a bunch of lazy power tripping assholes.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Or some other nancyboy sh!t like that, because neither of us is about to change our perspective, and flaming on this subject would get kinda dull :p

good question though
When was the last time you put your life on the line or made a traffic stop or gave CPR to a choking restaurant patron or helped a drunk recompose himself in the drunk tank? Your job IS different from theirs.

To answer your question, I'd give it to them for free. Last year when I was patrolling campus for DPS I'd go into a gas station about once a week and get a fountain drink. The workers there always gave me the drink for free. Each time I went up there with my money expecting to pay, but they never let me. They told me the place had gotten robbed @ gunpoint twice in the past year, and even though I was just a student, they appreciated that I parked my marked DPS car right out front under the bright lights during my shifts (usually graveyard - 6:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m.).

I was once offered $10 for giving someone a jump start (that was part of my job description), so of course I couldn't take it...that would be like a bribe. But since the pop wasn't part of my job, there was no problem with me taking it. Plus, I never told any of my co-workers about it, lest they get overrun with students wanting free pop.

I was happy to help and get free pop! :) I never tried to abuse the privilege and get anything more than pop though.

Maybe YOU should stop being such a lazy asshole and try going on a ride-along. Then you'll see what a law-enforcement job is all about.
