good question though
What do you do for a living ?

I work at Southern Refrigerated Transports, our fleet of trucks delivers food, supplies, you name it, anything you buy at the store, we deliver it, Im not saying we do it all because there are bigger fleets than us but were about 4th or so.

I work on trucks, I handle warranty, etc.

so we probaly deliver the coffee that you give to cops for free, wheres mine?

Cops have a sh!t job for low pay. They deserve a freebie and the appreciation of the community. In general I don't like cops and I get pissed that they can park in the red zone to drop off dry cleaning and I can't, but I can respect the job they have to do.

they know what their stepping in to. they know what their pay will more than likely be before they even sign the papers. they get my respect and more so than others because their willing to do what they do for the pay they get. hell how many cops even get hardcore action. the town I drive through every damn day, I see the cops a MINIMUM of 3 patrl cars sometimes 5+ sitting at the local diner. wtf, I know they dont get that many breaks because they are always there and its the same cops everytime because this isnt a very big town that I pass through.

winkosmosis coudlnt say it any better. they get my respect, but that is all. hell like you all have said, coffee isnt much, so why cant they pay it then?

do you tip people? do you tip delivery people?

a coffee costs less than the tip you would typically give a delivery person, at least for me. i think a coffee is the least i could give to say:

thanks for risking your life for my safety

free is good but my job some how(and other ATOT'ers jobs) affect people as well. You eat food, etc, how do you think the food gets to the store where you purchase it?

4 cent cup of coffee for 60 cents?

Sort of like a hundred dollar ticket for going 10 miles over. I'd give them free coffee until they gave me a ticket, then I'd start charging them double

the cost of the coffee isnt the issue. Subway gives cops free food, 7-11 gives them free coffee, we give them electronics/appliances at cost. Why??? Because you will get treated better, and they will respond quicker if they know the person/business that the call is coming from.

Last summer some crackhead tried writing me a bad check at work. We called the cops and they were there in under 2 minutes. They arrested the guy, put him in the back of the cop car, and let us have a little fun with him for trying to steal from us.

Last month we had a guy that was...well...slow come in and he wouldnt leave. He wasnt really causing trouble, he was just asking anyone and everyone for a ride. After 4 hours we got sick of him and told him it was time to go, but he wouldnt leave. We called the cops because we didnt know what to do with the guy. It was near closing time and we were afraid we were going to have to lock him inside the place so we could leave. The cops got there really quick, talked to the guy, and ended up paying for his cab ride home.

Do you have to give cops special treatment? NO
Does a cop have to give you special treatment? NO

We do live in a "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" society. Its nice to have people owing you favors, especially if they carry a badge and a gun.

Cops eat and drink free in my stores. Not only in hopes of having them respond faster if we are robbed, but in respect of the job they do for such minimal pay. They work for ALL of us. We should all chip in when we can to make their lives a bit nicer.

bleh, they should always be there when there is a call. yes i know some calls for them are not needed, but oh well, thats their job.

edit- we should give/offer them free food/drink/etc just to do their job? haha gg.

I shouldnt get any longer of a wait for a cop to arrive whether I give them free coffee or not.

I work in an Auntie Annes pretzel kiosk. I charge them the same as if they are a regular customer. Never had any problems yet, but if they ever ask for something, I'd probally just offer them a discount.

Perhaps, give it to them at a discounted price?

Tough call. I think tim hortons in canada gives a donut and a coffee for like $.60 if you're a cop. In your case I'd do it and you can always back away from it if things get silly with it, but theyt may end up eating there, and the cost of a coffee is negligible anyway. Plus, if you ever have to call them they'll know where you are :)

Most would be required to refuse, I believe.

My brother & I got pulled over leaving a Krispy Kreme parking lot (forgot to turn our lights on, were still under the bright lights). Cop was cool, we offered him a donut - he said he couldn't take it.

Oh well, more for us.

I think in that situation it would be considered a bribe.... In a coffee shop or bakery where you have done nothing wrong yet, it would be being appreciative or whatever.

LMAO I cant believe you offered a cop a donut. Did you oink at him too?

He had already let us go, he just pulled us over to tell us to turn our lights on (which we had already realized by the time he got to our car). And no, I didn't oink at him.

It was not intended as an insult, but as a friendly gesture.

I must admit, though, before he pulled us over I told my brother "If he pulls us over we're offering him a donut." That was before he was even behind us.

:D

hell no
you already pay his salary with your taxes
+ most cops are arrogant and stupid (it's true that some do a great job to protect us but most don't)
+ he might think you are attempting to corrupt him
+ he won't appreciate anyway (this will make his superiority complex grow...cops in the US think they are the sh!t)

I was referring that they do their job as I do mine. Yes its different in the labor and kind of wok we do but its a job. My job gets food delivered to the stores, diners which they purchase coffees and donuts at.

So technically, I shouldnt get a ticket because I work and fix the trucks that deliver the coffee and food to the stores/diners where they get it free.

this thread is atleast curing my boredome at work.

good question though

I think thats where you said it was the same!

I would give the cop a free coffee. It's not like its going to hurt the bottom line on the sales.

Most convienince stores give fountain drinks and plain coffee to cops, but not bottled drinks and other food items.

Once in a while, but not every day.
Need to add this option, imo.
This poll was more a first-time seeing the cop question. What you do after is up to you.
