POLL: Would a National Cancel Cable Day work?

Seeing how cable prices go up regularly, much faster than other costs, why hasn't any group organized a day when everyone cancels their service for a month? It is obvious that the price the networks charge cable companies is the root cause, cable company greed the other, so what better way to send a message to get them back down to reasonable prices? Cable in my area has more than doubled in 11 years!

BTW, I cut the cable years ago and now have more time to read, listen to jazz, and do things with my family and friends. Cost was part of the picture, but free time definitely weighed in as well. Would you consider jumping ship for 1 month with millions of others, and wait to have them beg to have you back for a lower cost?

I'd look into getting a dish if they wouldn't charge me so much more for my cable internet otherwise.

I pay ~$120 a month for my internet and cable. 😱

It's split between two people, but I still think I'm being overcharged.

Cable sucks, still some good stuff to watch every once in a while, self control takes care of that time problem you speak of. I rarely watch TV but it's nice to have around.

I got rid of it just because of the constant price hikes. And I don't miss it. But that's not a bad idea for those of you still on the cable video hook.

I just love AT&T. I dropped Broadband Monthy magazine because I barely ever use it. $3 savings/month. Enjoyed that for a whole month now my bill is $3 more this month out of the blue.

If you could get EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY to do it, it would work.
Otherwise, they'll just jack the prices and when everyone re-subs, they won't lower it.

For the relitive value it is not that bad as it is on 24 and 7... Make a few long distance calls and you can be way over the cost of cable. But I do agree that the prices are climbing way too much.

Heh, that's funny. I'm just about to take a shower and go return my cable box. $50/mo for extended basic with outages everyday? I don't think so.

its not cable tv that takes my free time, its the internet

/me curses al gore....

anyway, i dont watch a whole lot of tv, tho there are alot of things id like to watch that i cant catch...i should buy a couple blank vhs tapes, lots of history channel/discovery/tlc stuff id like to watch that i forget about, or arent around to watch, along with other programming, bah

if it is too expensive for you, just cancel

why do you need others to join you? you have no will power to act alone?

I need my Porn. lol, j/k

I have cable right now and paying $60+ for it. Im going to cancel it soon. TV has gotten stupider and stupider every passing day(except for the Simpsons).

My wife and I have got to seriously cut our cable bill down. We have digital cable, three digital set-top boxes, and cable internet. The monthly is $120!!! :Q!!! We rarely ever watch TV because we are usually always on the computers. There is great cable programming for the kids, and during the summer we are rarely even at home, yet still getting that bill!!!

I'd try it if I knew that the rates would go down and stay down, but I don't see it happening..

It'd work as well as "National don't buy gas" day
A little different. Not buying gas for one day means the demand will be higher the next few days. Giving up cable doesn't mean you'll need to be connected right after that day.

Yes, so the prices doubled, but aren't you getting more service than got before (meaning more channels)? You have access to more PPV (some people order it I guess), more HBO's, music channels, plus the rate of inflation... did you think cable prices would seem low forever?
