I went from an x800gto2 (oc'd to XT speeds) to a x1900gt. Couldn't be happier. I run it at 1680x1050. It's a swell card to get by until DX10 for little cash.
Get it, save your money, and get a DX10 card when the prices come down.

I did what you originally proposed... Sell the old card, and you're out $30.

dooooo it.

I would order this X1950GT for $146 shipped with a $30 MIR. This comes out to $116 after the rebate and $16 after you sell your old card.

Look at this review. The X850XT is pretty close in performance to the 7600GT. The X1950GT is a nice upgrade above that, and the X1950PRO is not enough of an increase to warrant the extra $47 over the X1950GT.

I'm going to try to get some more money together and shoot for the X1950XT...:D
If that doesn't work out, then I might just settle for the X1950PRO Ultimate...:)
Or just the X1950PRO...
Or X1950GT...:(

I haven't found the RAM speed of the GeCube Radeon X1950XT AGP, not even on their website, weird?

Well I planning on getting the PCIe version of the X1950XT but my plans have been delayed (like the R600 release).

Are both Vista premium and Home going to support DX10??? If it's only Premium that can, it requires a minimum spec of 1GB Ram, so get the 2GB for breathing room and when the new midrange cards get benched by the end of the month, get the midrange DX10 part then.

All versions of Windows Vista are DX10.

I'll decide by Tuesday, whether or not I'm going to wait a while, or get the RAM or get the X1950XT (I'm sold on this right now) unless the mid-range DX10 parts that release on the 17th are in fact worth the price.

Well...

Nvidia's mid-range has officially disappointed me...so...

I think it is now a choice between the X1950XT and ATI's DX10 mid-range OR...
8800GTS when the price falls...

For now...I'm still confused...

I would shoot for the 8800GTS 320MB. It seems that the prices are falling: link.

If you can find and use the $15 coupon, then it's $225 AR. I'm not sure if you want this specific deal, but I think it shows that this card's prices are falling. I can't wait to see what the R600 release does to the prices.

I don't have time to game right now, but my last day of class (forever, hopefully) is July 5. By then, the card prices should be lower, and I'll have a choice between nVidia and AMD. I game at 1600x1200, so I really want the 8800GTS 640MB (or the AMD equivalent), but it's just too expensive right now.

I agree except for the time part. I can't wait until July.

Now that NV has released their mid-range (tsk tsk)...we are all now more than ever awaiting DAAMIT's DX10 release, both high-end and mid-range.

What will their mid-range look like in terms of specs and price. Anyone have any links for me?

I know you didn't just say JUNE...couldn't have been JUNE...did anyone else see him type JUNE just now?

JUNE!!!!

Are they crazy?!?!?!

They are going to lose sooooo much money until then. Even though NV's DX10 mainstream is DISAPPOINTING but people are still going to be buying them.

I don't think I can wait until JUNE.

How does the 8800GTS 320 perform at 1680x1050 resolution (that's the resolution of the 22" LCD that I eventually plan on getting)?

Sorry about the drama but I'm just REALLY DISAPPOINTED by Nvidia. I really thought they had a gold mine written all over the 8600GTS.

I think what they should have done, was to clock both the 8600GT and GTS at 675/2000 but give the GTS a 256-bit memory interface.

Request: Does anyone have any links to any specs (even leaked) on the ATI DX10 lineup?

I think it performs pretty well with the current games all the way up to 1600x1200. Above that, the 640MB really sets itself apart. However, I'm personally not going with any lower performance than the 8800GTS 640MB, because I want the card to perform well in future games as well. I'm not one of the people who gets a new video card every year, so I'm going to make sure this one lasts a while. I recommended the 320MB version, because it seemed that the 640MB was way out of your price range.

All I know is come April 22nd, Intel CPU prices are dropping and I am ordering whatever vid card is available for the new shuttle system. I'm sick of waiting for ATI to release the card. I mean, for gods sake, give us a release date at least...

You're right, the 640 is out of my price range but the 320 seems to be a very good contender for my money at this point unless ATI's DX10 lineup says otherwise.

I'm kinda thinking the same thing you know. I'm getting frustrated with all the waiting. If I save enough for a 8800GTS 320MB and DAAMIT still doesn't show up by then, then that's what I'll be getting too (or just settle for an X1950XT..:)).

As I said before, I eventually plan on getting a 22" widescreen monitor. So...

For a really demanding game such as Oblivion, and more demanding games to come, will an 8800GTS 320MB be enough to game at max setting at 1680x1050 resolution?

Also, can I use 1600x1200 benchmarks (since it displays more pixels than 1680x1050) as a guide to what the 320MB version can do?

This is something I need to know in prospect of buying a new card in a few weeks time.

I honestly think that card is more than enough for that resolution. Its when you wanna do 1900x1200 or higher that extra memory really helps along with a speed boost. I plan on getting the 320MB version on Monday.

Lucky you. I still have to be scraping and saving to save up enough in the next few weeks.
I was thinking of just going with the 640MB but then again, that is just WAY out of my price range, even the 320MB is but I think I'm gonna go for it.
Although it would be interesting to see DAAMIT's DX10 lineup...
