i say fvckin' make being an adult an adult. Either raise the voting age to 21 or lower drinking/gambling to 18.

I say 19. On the poll at least... Personally, 18. No, I don't drink much, and yes, I'm over 21.

Reason being, I think if you can get drafted, smoke, get tried legally as an adult, and have all the resposibilities of one, there should not be an item denied to you which someone older can get. Perhaps the fact that you *can* get it might make people more responsible, and less likely to go rebel by sneaking around and getting some. Either that or move all said "privs" up to 21 to match drinking.

where is the option for "no age"

i would let my kid drink based on how i judge his maturity. since i don't have a kid, i obviously can't determine that yet. but in any case, i think it's ricockulous that there are laws telling me what i can or can't drink or eat. BS.

its 18 in alberta, the province in Canada that I am in. I think Quebec is 18 as well, the rest of the country is 19.

Makes sense to me.

only in north america, especially the US is there such a "taboo" on drinking, and what age level should be set to legally allow it. I know friends in the US who's father let some of his friends have a party and drink at his 16th Bday, almost all of the parents were flabergasted and called him an unfit father to be letting his son drink at that age. Totall BS if you ask me, its the sensical thing to do if you know your kid is gonna booze it up. Let em get smashed in your basement and not a friends car wrapped around a telephone pole :\

go to europe sometime, you'll see 12 year olds in france drinking a glass of wine with their parents, and similiar situation with beer at octoberfest in germany....

different attitude towards alochol in europe though, than in america i think.

Ditto on the "if you areold enough to die for our country, you should get beer" mentality, but I would rather see it made so that HIGH SCHOOL AGE kids dont drink... so I popped in 19.

I don't think it's active, but the ability to reinstate it at any time (without voting) is still there.

here in Switzerland it's normally: Beer and Wine with 16, stronger stuff 18, but there are stores which sell alcohol to anyone, so no big deal :)

if you have to have an age limit, that would be the most logical solution. driving is far more dangerous than drinking.

hell there are so many things wrong with the system. The driving system is a joke. Anyone can get a license these days. Drinking, however, should be raised higher. Kids these days are alot more immature than what they were in the past. (this is not about all kids btw before anyone gets upset. Just generally speaking)

let me give you a quote from socrates:

Youth today love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority, no respect for older people, and talk nonsense when they should be working. Young people do not stand up any longer when adults enter the room. They contradict their parents, talk too much in company, guzzle their food, lay their legs on the table and tyrannize their elders.

that was over 2400 years ago. i really don't think the level of maturity has changed any significant amount. its just that when you get older, you tend to sugarcoat your memories.

i voted 14-16. maybe cause i'm from UK anyway where it's 18. i used to go be an idiot and get drunk in town when i was 14. stupid yes. educational? well, kinda. U need to learn the effects of drinking 1st person, rather then getting taught them at school. i guess 14-16 for hard drinks (30% up) is abit stupid, but alcypops and beer i think are alrite for 16 for sure.

FOr a more realistic target, i think in the UK it should be lowered to 16 for any type of drink, as people that age can just as easily get an older brother/sister, someone of the street, fake ID to get the booze.

For US, i think 21 is ridiculous. it should definetly be 18 over there.

edit: oh yea and i think some states in america letting kids drive at 15 with parents is crazy. dam, my cousin who lives in florida was drivin me round when he was 15 last easter, he had to sit on a pillow

driven age should be rased to 17 like uk ;)

Illinois tried lowering the drinking age to 18 from 21. The increase in traffic accidents and deaths were reason enough to raise the legal age back to 21.

I agree, let stupidity weed out the dumb ones. As long as they do it far away from me.

I also say no age restrictions...I know people who are only 14 and have gotten drunk off their @$$es before! It's sad, but also very stupid. I think it is something that just cannot be helped.

I live in Fargo, ND, which is very close to Canada. The 'in' thing to do is go up there when you're 18, get drunk, and look at nekkid women. ;) I'm not into that stuff, I guess. I'd prefer Kool-Aid and a few good rounds of UT2003 online. :D

I think it should be 18. If it wasn't for the hassles of being under 21 when going out, I could date younger. ;)

that sounds good and all but the problem lies in the fact that when people are drunk, they don't normally hurt only themselves. I had a good friend back in high school that was hit by a drunk driver.... his aunt and his little niece were both killed and he was in a coma for 2 months i think it was. All because one stupid kid thought he could drive after drinking... After that, screw kids and their alcohol
